Solstice Owns the Miata
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...1024/MICROSITE
For the first time since it debuted in late 1989, Mazda's MX-5 Miata is not America's favorite budget two-seat sports car.
That honor now belongs to the Pontiac Solstice.
Heading into the final weeks of the year, the swoopy $20,000 Pontiac sports car has a commanding sales lead over the venerable Miata. And there are no asterisks, either: Both cars came out in 2005, so this is their first full year of head-to-head competition.
Through November, Pontiac sold 18,361 Solstices, compared with 15,873 Miatas. Pontiac padded its lead in November, chalking up sales of 1,305, compared with just 995 Miatas.
This race could be even more interesting next year. Expect greater availability of the high-performance 260-hp Solstice GXP. And Mazda will offer a Miata with a folding metal roof.

Re: Solstice Owns the Miata
I think it was a Maxim article or something similar that I read about 6 months ago that said that Miata, Solistice, BMW 3 series and 1 or two other models were the most preferred vehicles by the homosexuals.

Re: Solstice Owns the Miata
I prefer the Saturn Sky. I don't really like the Solstice. But I thought it was cool it was beating out the Miata.

I agree with the chick car comments. And what's the deal with that poor fitting rag top?

If aligned correctly, it fits good. But, it is a pain in the rear to align, but not as bad as that hardtop convertible used on the G6s.

The sky beat out the miata also, according to my friend who's sky redline just arrived. He said you don't feel any turbo lag, it's a quick car, and we're currently working on aftermarket product development for both cars.
Oh...I don't care for the solstice design either...but this changed my mind:
So, we picked up their line.

Cool! I'm hoping a SKY hardtop comes along in addition to the roadster. Then it would be a nice racing car. Apparently you can't take soft tops to those track events (I don't know what they're called), and I can't even see where to mount a roll-cage on the SKY or Solstice.

Re: Solstice Owns the Miata
I like the Sky, a friend of mine got one around August and I was very surprised. Didn't ride in it, but it was pretty. Something I didn't expect when I heard Saturn.

A company has manufacturered these, but I would rather just have the regular hard top. Miatas run all day without hardtops as long as they have a roll cage that's sanctioned.
For those of you that can read dyno's, the redline has some impressive figures. Not to mention, they're sold for the entire year.

That hardtop conceptual rendering looks a lot like the old BMW M-Z3 AKA "The Gremlin". I kinda like it.
I drove a SKY a few months ago and it was very fun. Not much in the way of turbo lag on the base model either, and the handling was pretty solid. Feels way bigger than it is too, with the long hood. Sort of like driving the Z4. I think the only things missing are a kicking sound system (the base system is HORRIBLE), more storage room, and some side-impact airbags.

Re: Solstice Owns the Miata
I really like Sky redline. I was tempted to buy one (non-red line)this fall but my Triumph TR8 is so damn much fun with the 3.5 litre V8. They are fun to drive and quality seems pretty decent. Maita's are just GHAY.

Re: Solstice Owns the Miata
This is what I am waiting for to come out. Spring 08 I believe is the latest release time.

Re: Solstice Owns the Miata
Threadjacker!
Yeah...you and the rest of the import world. V8 TT, I believe is their top of the line. Estimated $60k? I'm still not much on the design. Of course, the G35 is a skyline, just the lower grade (there's 5 levels, I believe). Nissan's looking to compete with the Z06's on this one.
Some people think that it will be a stroked VQ35DE (current G35/350Z engine) with forged internals and lower compression 8.5. It will have an active center and rear differential that will start off at 10% front/90% rear until the rears start losing traction then shift up to 50%/50%. On some sites they estimate this car will come stock with about 450HP/450lb-ft but we'll see.

I've been called worse.
They still haven't decided whether or not to run the V-6 twin turbo or a non-turbo V-8 (similar to the Audi S-4). Either way they are speculating having something that will push around 450 hp. IMHO I would go with the V-6TT. Just my personal likes for having turbos and all the trimmings. Plus having a stock TT will making upgrading to larger turbos easier. I just love the thought of being able to get 800-1000 hp out of a V-6.
