Will the spare fit in the bed? Flat?
Can you put the spare on the roof (directly), slide the roof racks to sandwich it and then lock/tie it off?
Thinking of short term options for trips (If I ever get the damn thing 
)

I've seen an SUT with the spare in the back with a tonneau cover so the answer to your first question is yes. I'm not sure about mounting it on top, I don't see why not although I think I'd want a GOBI rack or something a lil more solid.
