Got my Nav installed today and the stereo shop took it to a local GM dealer to get the radio unlocked. Apparently this was too complicated for the Chevy dealer. They even went as far as saying that I had to take it to a Hummer dealership, citing that the Tech 2 tool they have is not the same as the Tech 2 at the Hummer dealership. Morons!

Consequently I made an appointment with Bellevue Hummer but even they are skeptical that it will work. I know it will because many of you have done this. I purchased the appropriate GM NAv that works with my Y91 option code. So there is no compatibility issue. I just can't find anyone to program it for me.

If you have experience with this, could you:

1. Give me a link to the exact procedure so I can print it out and give it to the service people.

2. Send me the contact information of the person who completed the procedure on your H2 Nav retrofit. Perhaps they could call your dealer to get a clue.

Thanks folks...this is driving me crazy. Kacy

I bought it from JP Customs (who sells complete Nav kits for H2's). They had a used INR that they had in their Tahoe. I've purchased many items from them and I trust them. The unit works with Y91 option code.

Very familiar with JP Customs. Bought my complete TNR Nav/XM/CD upgrade for my '03 from them. I assume you've installed in your '03. The '03s do not require "programming" to play. They have the Class II databus so it's like plug-n-play. However, if it's the anti-theft lock that's preventing it from playing I would have thought JP Customs would have unlocked it before selling it to you. If it is the anti-theft lock a dealer is going to have to reset it. Is it in fact the anti-theft that's giving you the problem? If so and JP Customs can't help you try this link Radio-Code.com

I'll try to post some info I have gathered on this in the past. Understand, this is all from notes I've written and while I can't guarantee that it works (I have not installed a TNR yet) it is from reliable sources.

Bear with me because this is from WRITTEN notes. One of the few times I've written notes instead of typed them into Word or something.

Ok, there might be a way to temporarily test to make sure you are all plugged up and working:

<UL TYPE=SQUARE>1) Turn key to ACC position (not run)
2) Wait for "theftlock" screen to appear
3) Pull radio fuse
4) Put radio fuse back in
5) Radio will work until the key is turned off or you try to start the vehicle[/list]

Note with the procedure above, they will have to lie to the tool and input Model Year 2004.

When you state that you have to lie about the year of the truck is it always '04 or do you have to tell the Tech2 the year of the radio? ie..2005 for the touch screen model?

I am talking model year of the vehicle. You have to lie if you really have a 2003, as the scanner is smart enough to know that navigation was not an option in 2003, so the unlock options will not show up.

In a nutshell, if you have a 2003, lie to the tool and input 2004. If you have a 2004 or a 2005 be truthful to the tool and input the correct model year.

As Klaus is saying, if the service guy puts in 2003 and goes down through the options, the Nav radio is not going to show up since the Nav was not an option in '03. Since '04 and '05 H2s did have Navs as options you can use those model years and the Nav will show up on the Tech2 as an option.

I believe you stated you have an '03 so it would probably be best for the service guy to "lie" to the tech2 and say it is an '04. The year or model of the radio does not matter as long as it is works with your setup (lux amp vs premium amp)

I had to do the same thing on an 03. I even contacted TAC operations and they said it was "impossable" to have that system on an 03. Well I finally figured it out. Kinda sad when our technical "guru's" back east can't help us..

kacyk were we able to fix your problem at the dealership?
