AC on with Recirc
Is the AC compressor supposed to come on when you hit the recirculation button? The AC button is off, but I can't run the vents in recirc mode without the AC coming on. The AC light is still off, but the air coming out of the vents gets very cold.
I normally have the vents on without recirc, but occasionally when I get behind an oil-burning Dodge product, I flip on recirc so I don't pull the smell in.
Just wondering if this is normal or if it is a problem.

Re: AC on with Recirc
Yes, the ac does come on with the recirc. It does the to keep the humidity down in the vehicle so the windows dont fog up. This is the first vehicle I have owned that automatically makes the ac come on with the recirc. In some ways it is nice, but in other ways it sucks. I like to have the recirc on when the temp in the vehicle is just right, but the cool ram air coming in form the vents while driving is just a touch chilly. Now the air gets colder, and I am still forced to mess with the temp control.

Re: AC on with Recirc
You should still be able to control the heat coming out, regardless whether or not the A/C is on, with the temperature controls.

Re: AC on with Recirc
You are right, but that wasn't my point. When I am comfortable, I want to stay that way, not futch with stuff to stay that way. The easiest way to do that is to turn the flow of air off by switching to recirc, but in the H3 that still means I have to mess with the temp control to stay comfortable.

Noticed the same thing. During the fall, we don't need a/c but I hit recirc when I'm behind an oil burner or a smoky diesel. Gets cold fast

Re: AC on with Recirc
I noticed that w/in the first week of my purchase. Went back to the dealer. It is apparantly a GM thing as it exists on Cadilac too.
It is a nice feature for me, but I don't see the need for the A/C button if this is doing the same thing.
That said though, it acts like a Maxx A/c switch on the H3 like Ford has to give a faster fan speed when you select maxx a/c from reg a/c.

Re: AC on with Recirc
Is this truly an AC recirculation or is it sucking air in. My push button for the AC is on the right knob; the push button for the recirc is on the center knob. If it is AC, would the AC be activated by the center knob only as opposed to having them both on?

Re: AC on with Recirc
My experience has been that either one of the knobs activate the a/c. If you want to have the a/c light on, then push it too, but the a/c will function as it is supposed to w/ the Recirc button on only.

Re: AC on with Recirc
There are times, although I don't really know when, that you might want to run the ac while getting fresh air from outside the vehicle. That is what the ac button does. The recirc button makes the same cold air from inside the vehicle run back over the evapotator to make it cooler. This is great, when it is hot outside, but sucky any other time.

Re: AC on with Recirc
Did you notice when the fan is off air still flows through the vents.
If you hit the rec button at that time it will stop the flow of air.
