Maine Is Not Hummer Friendly
I just got back from a week's vacation along the Maine coast. It was the first time taking my new H3 there and unfortunately I had 4 separate run-ins with Hummer haters. The first occurred in the small town of Damariscotta where I was greeted by an elderly couple giving me the thumbs down and yelling "People's children are dying so you can put gas in your vehicle." On another occasion I came back to my H3 and someone had written "YUCK!" on my back windshield. There were 2 other incidents where bad comments were made. I felt like I was riding around with a bullseye on my hood. Maine is a great state to visit, but be ready to defend yourself from the tree huggers.

I don't understand why these people don't hate on the dodge crowd. Hell, anything with a hemi is getting single digit figures.

What the crap!
To the elderly couple: works both ways. I suppose everyone in your family rides a bike or walks to work.
Serously, those old people are just as guilty if they take that route. I have a friend who is moving to Maine next week. They almost bought a Hummer. They didn't. I was disapointed at first. Now I'm kinda glad if that's the way ppl in Maine really are.

Re: Maine Is Not Hummer Friendly
Coastal Maine in the summertime is 90% non-native. Virtually everyone you see is a trourist. Damariscotta gets huge numbers of bus tours and the good folks from Can-A-Dee-A, especially Quebec, flood Maine in the summer.
I think that people get ballsy when they're away from home. The repercussions are small for being rude and they can get away with it.
Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. I hope that it didn't color your vacation too much.

Re: Maine Is Not Hummer Friendly
This B.S. happens everwhere. Ive had to defend my 3 a few times now. This couple got out of a full size Chevy truck at the races the other day. where standing by my 3 enjoying some Gold & Cold before the race.. they walk by and the gal says something about Hummer gas hog or something like that. Grrrr,, I says Excuse me,, How many MPG does that truck you have get ?? She say , about 12 I think,, When I told her mine and explaned it was a 3 not a 1 Hummer,, shes like OH, the whole time her ole man is ogleing my 3 . He probably ended up at the dealer. LOT of mis informed peeps out there. Oh by the way I saw her later in the races,, Shes drunker than F##k and making a total fool of her self.. I was bustin up.

Re: Maine Is Not Hummer Friendly
It just shows how uneducated these people are. Do they yell at the all the other SUV's and pickups that get the same mileage? Down here in AZ that happened when the H3 first came out but there are a lot of Hummers here.
Plus they let everyone carry guns.

If it said honda on the side no one would say a word. You wanted to be diffrent, welcome to the price you pay. Minds will never be chaged and Hummers will always get looked at, good and bad.

Re: Maine Is Not Hummer Friendly
While in Las Vegas, someone wrote a whole litany on a ripped up scrap of paper, placed it under my windshield wiper, saying that my H2 takes so much fuel and I should be ashamed. They must have said H2 10 times on that scrap of paper ... and here was my truck, an H3!!! They didn't even know what type of Hummer it was. Hummer's just get a bad rap regarding fuel.... the Escalade I was given as a loaner took waaaaay more gas than my H3. There are narrow minded people everywheres you go, unfortunately.

Re: Maine Is Not Hummer Friendly
Hummer haters all have their own reasons. My father-in-law is a retired oil VP. He hates liberals and doesn't give a sh*t about the gas mileage. But he still hates hummers because they're a "status symbol".
But get this ... he owns 2, million dollar houses (for winter and summer), a condo in the mountains, and a big old cadillac. He eats at only the best restaurants and buys his wife expensive jewelry. I guess he likes his status symbols after all.
It's gonna really piss him off when I drive up in my new H3 this fall, lol

Re: Maine Is Not Hummer Friendly
Not seeing the hate here in Silicon Valley (northern Cal), but people are often highly educated here. They know the H3 to some extent is somewhat of a concession to environmentalists (dare I say which will rile up some) with its more practical compact size and somewhat economical engine.
