Usable advice needed!

Hi, Folks.

I'm about to become a a H2 owner, and I live in the UK.

What living in the UK means for hummer owners is gas at the cost of $7.46 a gallon (£4UKP). This makes the H2 at 10mpg a very, VERY expensive car to drive.

Now, I'm not after massive improvements, but it would make a world of difference to me to be able to get my H2 up to around 14mpg. What would I need to do to the car to achieve this? Do air-filters and power programmers actually make any difference at all?

This is a genuine request for help. At current exchange rates, it will cost me $239.00 USD to fill the tank of my hummer, and I'd seriously like to get more than 320 miles for my money.

I appreciate that the Hummer was never made for a UK market, and everyone knows that they should have made a diesel version, but we are where we are, and there has got to be a way to improve the gas milage about 10mpg without spending the earth.

Thanks in advance for any information anyone can give me - I've always been a fan of american cars (owned 3 corvettes), and have always wanted to own a hummer. Would hate to think this inability to maintain double figures on fuel consumption may somehow tarnish the enjoyment I'd get from this amazing truck.

At best, I expect maybe a 1 or 1-1/2 mpg increase. That would put me at about 12.8 or 13 mpg. Still better than the 10 mpg you're expecting. But at those prices! Wheeeew. Most of us look at it that if we can afford the H2 we can afford to feed it. And it's worth every penny!!!

P.S. At that rate it will take about 25000 miles to get my upgrade investment back. Sooner for you at your prices.
