As many of you know I have been lurking here and lusting for a H2 for months. I kept telling myself, they will fix the rusting, the leaking, and all the other first year headaches....then gas got over $2.00 per gallon in NYC and I just ordered the new 2004 Prius. Sure, I got it loaded but I won't be following you all when you go off the road. But the other thrill, of getting 60 mpg, is one I can't resist exploring. And NO, I did not order it because it is "green", but because it is different and hopefully will be fun. I have 6 cars, my next possible purchase comes up in 18 months....will I be able to resist again? I will continue to lurk and lust and envy........

With six cars what do you care what gas prices are? Sell one or two and then you can afford the gas.

Sorry dude, didn't notice you lurking.
I have to echo Argo when I say- What the hell do you care about gas prices when you have 6 other cars? Why not sell 2 or 3 of them and step up to the H2? Just curious.

I bet the H2 gets better mileage than your plane.

funpilot,

The advantage of the H2 from a typical motor vehicle crash perspective is, MASS. Not many crumple zones but lots and lots of MASS.

Having treated spinal injuries for over a decade and haviug my own family in a crash...MASS is worth the tradoff for me. If you want better mpg then buy a 6.0 liter diesel Excursion 2wd.

That's what I wrapped my wife and 6 boys in. 7400lbs of metal that gets (no lies here) 30 mpg on the highway and 22.5 mpg combined. Yes, I do my own calcs and the worst tank of diesel was 21.6 mpg (towed our trailer). It has 325 hp and 560 ft/lbs of torque stock. Your life is worth more than the Prius.

My two cents.

Why 6 vehicles? 4 Drivers, so 4 cars at home. I live in Virginia and work in NY, so I keep a car in NY (#5), and I have a motorhome (#6). If I sell the motorhome, maybe the Hummer can be next. Anyone want a very nice Born Free?

I do not look at what it costs per mile to fly but rather per hour....which for me is about $250.00 .... a hummer costs about $10.00 (60 mph = 5 gallons *2.00 = $10.00) in fuel per hour and when you add maintenance and depreciation, I would guess about $13.00 per hour. Yes, the Hummer is cheaper. But I never considered the Excursion.....hmmmmmmm

I fly a piper aztec...a small twin. That is what it costs with everything factored in. Burns about 29 gal per hour just in fuel.

I think that mileage of the Prius is great but why do automakers feel obligated to make economical cars look so crappy. I mean are they serious. They couldn't come up with better body styling?

I was not aware that the Prius got 60 mpg ... I was under the impression that 40 to 50 mpg was the norm .... congratulations on your new car .... we have a Honda GX for one of our kids ? Anyone seen one of these ??? It gets 2400 miles on a tank and it costs about $12.00 to fill up ! Our kids have to buy their own fuel ...
