Hey does anyone have a black H3?
If so what do you do to combat water spotting..
I just busted my but tonight to hand polish out all the hard water marks.
I layed a nice coat of mcguiers wax on her as well glasss and mirrors as well.. But I used to hose it off once in a while and not dry it ..I wont do that anymore..I ove the black but man is it hard to keep clean and shows everything.
I traded ina n 04 dodge ram laramie Hemi for the H3 and the water spots had actually etched the paint and the glass and side view mirrors as well...
Hard water here in GA what are you all doing to help/stop this or am I the ponly one dealing with this.

The rain is doing it here as well not just from the hose but the hose is much worse for sure.
Real hard to towel it dry every time it rains ya know??

Well if it makes you feel any better your not alone I too have a blk H3 I am washing every other day and waxing on the weekend My first Blk truck ever But I worked 11 yrs in car biz I should have known better then to get Blk But It just looks so good! I think if you got it waxed up real good you might be ok just don't let the sun burn the water spots in just try to dri before the sun comes back out. and wax wax wax o try paint sheild(auto armar) or 3m paint potect poducts Soft cloth Also so you don't get swirl marks in your paint

I have a white H3, but used to have a black BMW and used a quick detail product like Eagle One to combat water spots between applications of Klaus All-In-One and SG (my opinion, better than wax).

Hi guys and thanks for the replies.. Glad I'm not alone. I wanted the black from the start and am still glad I made the decision...but man the hard water here in GA is rough!
I have been hosing it off to get the crap off of it several times a week and not drying it off because I havent realy washed it and am afraid of scratching it...which in the past hasn't given me any trouble with my blue dodge.
I need to rethink..I guess I need to live with the dirty truck until I get time to properly wash it and dry it. Hopefull the polishing I did last night and the 2 coats of mcguires gold wax will help...being on the coast probably doesnt help either.
When I detaild my dodge before the trade in the hard water had actually ETCHED all the glass and side view mirrors nothing I used would take it off..nothing. My friend who has his own paint shop said for the glass sometimes a double 0 steel woo will remove it but if t is bad enough it wont. I even waxed the glass and side view mirrors.
I have more concerns, seems like everyone is using mor plastic on there car manufacturing these days..the sun is unreal hot here in GA and I am afraid of all the plastic sun fading. I know I cant worry about what I cant control but other than the mothers back to black is there anything that will help prevent this?
Plus I need to try and get the water spots off the hood loover area..bad spots on it. I got some plastic/vinyl cleaner and protector from mcguires I guess I can try this..
In conclusion I love the black when it is clean it is intense looking for sure, I love how the handles and most of the plastic blends in, the truck IMO looks more like a complete unit rather than all the other colors the handles and side view mirrors etc look added on and do not blend well...again juts my opinion.

Oh yeah I forgot to say I have the mothers spray detailer, it didnt touch the spots. I actually used the turtle was cleaner/wax and had to rub well to remove, then I used the mcguiers gold was and did 2 nice coats on the entire exterior with the exception of the plastic..

To get out spots that were etched into my windows I used "Bar Keepers Friend" which comes in a gold can that looks just like Comet. My windows never looked better. I also used it on my chrome wheels and have never had anything that worked better on them. I originally bought it to clean my stainless steel grill and it looked new after I was done. Seems to work great on all kinds of things but don't know exactly how harsh it is. Check it out but use your own discretion

It doesn't rain much here, but I would recommend a softer wax. I use Carnuba. It's pricey, but it seems to keep the spot from "setting".
Also, my husband uses the Mr. Clean system for his '05 GT which is also black. there is a true spot free rinse cartridge that comes with it. Try that.

I have th mr clean system it left spots to believe it or not. and to be honest the weakness of the spot free rinse (pressure) I would rather dry it by hand it would be quicker.
Carnuba might be the ticket. I need t check the Mcguiers Gold can and see if it is a Carnuba based wax...

Mine is black and I also use the Mr. Clean system. It works really well for me. I also have a water softener in my house which probably helps a lot.

I use the spot free rinse, and then I chamois it dry 
I also use a Carnuba wash. I'll get the name of it and post later.
I picked it up at Hot August Nights in Reno. But he will send it to you. |

hey wouldnt a harder wax make it harder for the hard water to etch into it vs. a softer carnuba wax?
Just been thinking about it??

yeah I never toweled off the car aftyer the mr clean spot free rinse..they say you dont have to, but i probably should....

I use the mr clean and it works great for me. I wash in sections and keep the entire vehicle wet until I am ready for the spot free rinse. I then go over the entire vehicle with it and I am done. The only spots I have gotten after using it are occasional ones on the windows. A little windex and they are gone.

No problems here. I use "Kitwash" and dry with a microfiber dry towel.
The Kitwash put a very fine layer of wax on with each wash so I never have water spots during the rain.
I use motorcycle cleaner "S100" on the rims because the kitwash doesn't really do a good job.

I use the Carnuba wash, liquid Carnuba wax and the
Super Shine Protectant. It does not leave a film, nor is it shiny....just clean. |

Georgia has the acid rain..especially N Ga Mountain areas. Will etch black permanently. In 93 I bought a black Grand Cherokee 4X4 and could not get spots out.. Dealer repainted the hood. They are well aware of this problem.
