Has anyone thought about rotating their spare tire into the four on road tires so that when needed it's got the same wear and tear as the others? You know at each "rotate and balance" mileage....

I think that'd be a pain in the @$$ since the spare tire does not have a tire preasure sensor (or so I was told), can someone please let me know if I'm wrong?

It does have a sensor in it, we just dismounted the tire to exchange it for a Michelin.
It has to be activated. Instruction are in the manual for doing all 4 tires once in use.

Only monitored by the system when it has been installed at a corner of the vehicle; not monitored as a spare. H3Lady is correct, there is a learning process when moving the tires/wheels around the vehicle so that the computer can recognize which sensor is at which corner of the car.

Didn't even think about the 'trouble' the tire pressure sensors might cause during rotation....is it possible that we wouldn't need to rotate....or better yet....will the dealership know how to correctly rotate and 'activate' the pressure sensors once the tires are in their new location??? Hate to be so negative with 'the dealership' but it seems they always take forever and then you end up taking your car back.....

Not to jack your post, but does anyone knowq how to deactivate this feature> We've had our in to the shop and due to the sensor reading low tire preasure and it happens every time you start the vehicle. Than you reset it by pushing the trip button in on the dash. They don't have an answer how to fix it yet either.

They can replace all the sensor and the RCDLC module and you would have a new system, minus the BCM which only sends the signal to the I/P. There are extensive diagnostics for this system, and it really is not that new since they have used basically the same system on Vettes and Caddys for years.
Only big difference is the sensors can be programmed to each wheel by the customer, versus the need for a special tool or large magnet.
As for deactivation...in older systems, some did allow deactivation via a TECH 2 programmer. However, this system is now required by Federal Regulations and there is no way to deactivate that I know of.

The system is designed so that you can program the sensors yourself. Older systems required a magnet, placed over the tire stem, or a frequency generator. However, the older systems were used on vehicles like the Vette that did not come with a spare, and you could not rotate the tires due to size differences. So they assumed during tire replacement the same wheel/sensor would go at the same corner.
What this forum needs is a Tech area where people could post the procedures that other people might need in the future, just like this air pressure sensor program procedure.
