Real simple:

Buy them before going off road.

This weekend was my first time out using them.

The shield on the passenger side caught a log... got totally chewed to hell... and left the paint underneath unscratched.

Tragedy prevented.

My 2 cents...

Does anyone make some that cover the top of the doors and the front quarters?

You can use the included spare material along with extra tape for the top of the doors. Purchase a Colgan full bra for the hood and front quarters. I did and it works great!!

Here's a link for the bra info:

We normally use painters tape and another kind, hopefully the boys will help you with the name.

We tape the shields for extra protection so a branch doesn't catch and lift them up or off. Then just extend the tape up around the windows etc.. I am unsure whether shields are manufactured for those areas or not. You could always make a template and cut a magnet sheet yourself, but the tape works fine.

Shields are awesome:

I didn't know you also had to tape the shields on (or should to make sure the stay put). I guess if you're already taping, then also taping the top of the doors isn't a big deal. Maybe I'll look for some tape that matches the truck (DS) a little better than the blue. Thanks!

Frost King clear weatherseal tape works the best. It's clear and won't leave anything on the paint.

Taping the shields is mostly to keep them from blowing off on the highway. There are tons of scratches on mine, they are sooooo worth it!

Honestly, we found that stealing Oldhiker's idea and using the painter's tape worked fine. It will, however, come off after long periods of getting wet. Mine did not come off and had no problems with it after wheeling in mud and driving 6 hours home.

BTW, it removed easier than the Frost King. If you leave the FK on too long it will leave residue. Also, the FK may cause the paint to haze as it did on ours in a couple of small places.

The FK is more durable and will not pull off or tear as easily. But we had no problems with the blue tape.

Ken,

I'll bring you some vynil tape that's just sick!

Super strong, no residue even during high temp, but only comes in red or blue.
