Re: Got new mountain bike today...
I looked at something similar on eBay a couple years ago, fun downhill but hella heavy going uphill. Those frames are alloy but it's like schedule 40 thick and the overall bike weighs a lot.
If you decide you like riding after trying it out a bit, you might look for something like a used Haro Vector or Cannondale.

Not to be an ass but are you serious??????
A used Haro Vector vs this bike I got??? Its like comparing my H2 with a shopping cart. I have been riding for 20 years. Competitively in college and a little after. Have always owned hardtails and wanted a full suspension for downhill riding at our condo at WV ski resort.
Not sure if you know what the bike was I got or not. It surely isnt the best you can buy (wife wouldnt let me spend 4k and neither did I want to), but it is a far cry from the Haro Vector or many of the Cannondale full suspensions. I also used to have a Cannondale Delta V so I know about them as well.
Maybe you were joking and if so
And I really dont mean to sound like an assh0le. Just not sure if we are comparing apples to apples or not

Re: Got new mountain bike today...
Nice bike!
I prefer all mountain, the Yeti 575. I've done some nasty downhill in it and it's floats like a dream. But it only weighs 27 lbs so it's light enough for me to race with it.

Yes those are awesome bikes. I love the looks of the Yeti. Only problem I see with them is that the aluminum version frame alone cost as uch as my entire bike did I think those fully loaded aluminum are like 3500-4000 and the carbon one is 4500+.
This is my first full suspension and it definately takes some getting used to. Just curious, what size frame are you riding full suspension and how tall are you??? I know geometry of frames vary but just wondering.
Thanks

I ride a "medium" frame Yeti, but I'm sort of a in-betweener at 5'11" and have short inseam. I could go either way, but I think smaller is better when you're in the middle. I added a 10cm longer stem to it. It rides perfect.
Before this bike I had a Specialized FSR XC Pro - in a large. It totally depends on the manufacturer. Specialized used to make their FS bikes with a very short top tube, but now they make them substantially longer. So if I bought another Specialized I'd go with a medium.

Nice and thanks for the reply. This Iron Horse is a 19" which is I guess classified also as med. I too am 5'11 (with heels ) and really was difficult when trying different bikes. I still have my Diamondback Zetec. Its 10+ years old. But I think I am going to do a few upgrades and let it be my cruiser. Put some hybrid tires on for tooling around. The manitou shocks it came with in 1996-97 are pooed out and i cant rebuild them. So gonna try and pick up a cheap pair of rock shox or something inexpensive as these do nothing.

Yeah I wish Dennis. Unfortunately thats a tad out of my price range. No its in Cannan Valley located in West VA (not Whistler BC ) Though that would be nice but not as convenient.

So let me get this straight:
You prefer being inbetween, you have short legs, and when you're in the middle, you prefer your men to be little.
We sure could make a lot of jokes about that, but I won't participate.

No I'm not kidding, you should get to a Wal-Mart and put a Huffy on lay-a-way ASAP. That way you'll have a nice "move-up" bike waiting for you as your skills improve
Damn, my troll skills are weakening. I do love my Vector though, hardtail and all, for the mix of roads and trails around here. It is Kansas after all.
