Exclamation Exhaust Rattle

Did any body have a exhaust vibration rattle when you take off. I'ts seems to be on the low end just above idle when you take off . Rev up the engine nothing . Checked out the sheilds on the under side nothing loose. That's what it sounds like when you take off next to the drive in window it sounds kinda off tinny! Or should I just say honey the hummer (H2)needs new exhaust and be done with it .Any ideas, this has stock exhaust 2003 w/45,000 miles now??? One guy said it may be the cat. verter

Check the clearance between the crossover and the stock UCP. It's very close there and a rattle can happen quite easily.

There is a TSB related to some rattling and the muffler on the 2003. Luckily, you don't need to hassle with it since the fix doesn't work (based on experience). Most often the rattling is from the factory cage or skid plate get squished into the frame/engine which causes rattling, especially at low rpms. I've had a bit of this with my new UCP and skid plate - but I've fixed it all by tweaking things underneath.

If that doesn't work, lube the muffler bearing

I tried the muffler bearing lube with some left over brake lite fluid maybe that's the problem

I've heard that this can be life threatening and you need a new Hummer.

I'd say he should just get under the rig with a trusty Millermatic 210. Weld everything you see to the frame. Then, get a couple 4x8 sheets of 1/8 plate and weld that on. Not only will it stop rattling, it'll float too.

Tazhog-
1) Double check the sheilds

2) Check to make sure exhaust pipe / muffler is not hitting anywhere when under a slight load. (Have wifey put on brake and give a little gas while in drive.) Dont crawl underneath to listen if you have a large insurance policy on yourself.

3) Catalytac (sp) converters could have some crust chunks laying in them.

Mine is doing the same thing. 03/67k. I will drop mine this weekend and look for a crack in the shield. What did you weld it with? Mig, TIG, LH?

Mine was rattleing by hitting that tubular guard thats located just south of the front skid plate. A few washers and longer bolts solved it.
