Default Help with Burning DVD's from Sony Camcorder

CALLING ALL TECHIES......

OK....went out and bought a Sony HD Handycam HDR-CX7. Sony gives you the "Picture Motion Browser" to burn the videos on to a DVD.

The camera uses a memory stick as a media to record on.

Problem is when you try to burn a large movie to the DVD the Picture Motion Browser software crashes. Sony tech's tell me that the software is only designed to work reliably with movies up to 10MB. They said it will burn movies up to 200MB but not reliably.

My question to all you is....what aftermarket software is out there that I can get to burn large videos to DVD's. Our xmas day video i a 2.2 GB file. I tried using the Roxio software that came with my Dell but it crashes on the large file too.

The sony tech told me to use windows movie maker to basically hack up the movie into smaller parts and burn the smaller parts to the dvds....what the hell kind of an answer is that?!?!!?

any and all help is appreciated

Have you tried Divx or Nero? I also have Roxio, and it has worked fine for me. Also, if that doesn't work, maybe try changing the format of the video to a jpeg, wmv, or avi (if its not already an avi file.) Also, and mp4 might help. I believe tat is the same format that ipods use to condense large video files. Hope this helps.....Jamie

Jamie - have you burnt large files? I have the roxio that comes with the PC so its likely its the lite version. The cam records them in MPEG format. How would you change them to alternative file formats? I'm not familar with the video stuff on the PC....so forgive my questions if they sound basic....lol

I have the full Roxio version. Most programs have the option to change the format whether located in the tools section or when you go to save the existing video. I have burned large files through Roxio with no problem. There are PLENTY of free software sites that will allow you to try their product for a limited time, such as AnyDVD and a few others. If you don't have the full Roxio version, I would gladly burn a copy of the program and mail it to you for later use (b/c I know you are itching to get this done now). ......Jamie

That would be great if you would burn that and mail it to me. Do you want me to PM you my address?
