Default Grateful to be alive for Christmas ...

It took me a few days to come back to post here .. but now that I've gotten passed this, I can now say that I am so grateful to be alive after something that almost happened to me here on Dec. 21. L.A. is known for all of their high speed police pursuits shown on tv. Unknowingly, I was one of those people minding my own business, stopped at a red light on Pacific Coast Highway, who almost got plowed down at 100mph by the GMC SUV being pursued by about 10 police vehicles. I was at a red light .. first vehicle, with another SUV next to me. All of a sudden, coming at me, were several police cars being led by a speeding SUV (clocked between 90-100mph). The SUV hit a deep dip in the road, which made him lose control ... aiming right at me. He was going so fast that he was a blur. At the last second I saw him jerk his steering wheel... that's all I could see .. his hands in the last second jerking his steering wheel. He missed me by 1/2 inch. The H3 rocked back and forth. He crashed 2 blocks past me and landed on his roof. He got out and ran ... then finally cuaght by the police. For one second, I saw my life pass in front of me. My mouth was open in a silent scream .. I knew I was about to be hit head on. The couple in the suv next to me were in shock, just as I had been. We stood there through 3 light changes .. then slowly moved up along the curb in shock. I ached for a couple of days .. I had tensed up anticipating the crash. This is an experience I NEVER want to experience again. I used to think that, yeah, the police HAVE to catch up with the ones they want during a high speed pursuit. Now I say NO! Too many innocent people can be killed along the way. It turns out that this guy had robbed several homes in my neighborhood and was trying to get away. He had bags of jewlery when he was caught. Nothing is worth getting innocent bystanders killed with that rate of speed. Glad to still be here.

That's a close call Hmmm3. That's what I call a XMAS gift.

On the lighter side, it only costs $75 nowadays to fix the ding it would have left on your Hummer's bumper.

Definately a good day. Glad that you are telling the story and we are not reading about it in a news article.

I have been side swiped by a car that was being chased by the cops there along the I-5 and still feel that cops should not let the fvcker get away. I know it sucks to be that innocent by-stander but you never know who they are chasing.

It have some cops in the family and they have talked about how they withdrew from a pursuit and the guy got away to only go and murder a family during a home invasion. There are the good and bads to the pursuits. Yeah innocent people may be inadvertently invovled but if you let the person go they could go John Wayne Gacy on someone.

I will take the close call anyday if it removes a felon from the streets.

Actually what I saw those few seconds as he was coming at me was my family. That was it ... just my family. It was just like you read about ... your family's faces come to mind immediately.

AND .... just a little over an hour ago (5:10am), the police called and asked if I own a black Hummer. YES, I DO .. WHY???? They were calling to tell me that it had been badly egged. Of course, I had parked out on the street out front instead of putting in into the garage. Ran out to wash it down in the dark. The police were going up and down the street, which is very , very unusual for this area. I guess they were onto to someone.

So you're saying if criminals run just let them go? Don't be retarded. What we should be doing is making the penalty so severe for running that no one does. Don't be a pussy.

Agree. What good is it to remove ALL risk of high speed chases only to allow criminals to ALWAYS get away with impunity and then later, rob, rape, kill your family or mine. Get them when you have the chance.

Had a gun stuck in my back many years ago and told to get on the floor face down. As i thought this guy was going to blow my head off Your life does flash before your eyes. They causght the guy and all he got was probation and had to pay restitution to store I was working at.
Even if they catch em now they don't do enough to keep them in.
Glad you made it man!

Someday this country will hopefully return to treating criminals like criminals and not coddling them. Cutting off a finger or hand per offense would quickly send a message. And the first lawyer to object would be shot immediately.

I agree chasing them is dangerous for everyone invloved. If he had gotten away then later did a home invasion and raped and killed would that have been better? No good choice here!

However if they would equip the police cars with heat seeking missles, then maybe fewer idiots would try to run. If they did run it would only be once..!!!

Glad your ok, and your family is safer tonight because this idiot is off the streets for at least 2 hours, (thats about how long it will take to post bond and be out again thanks to the damn criminal justice system)

What the use. Arm yourself and get ready the creaton is breeding and feeding.

OK, I agree ... the one being pursued by the police should not get away. But, hey, you don't know how close a call it was for me. Took me awhile to get over it. He/she would laugh and go on to do more of the same to someone else, be it robbing, raping, beating .. whatever. I'm glad he was caught.

By the way, yes, the egg came off at the car wash. I had it detailed.

Every police department in the county I live in has a no pursuit policy. They just let 'em go. It's total crap because the scumbags know it and just use a stolen car to commit a crime and dump it when the cops call off the chase. Only the Kansas Highway Patrol still pursues here...unless you cross into Missouri...KC MO chases everyone.
