Hi guys,
I just picked up TWO H2's out in New York and I wanted to drive them back with one in tow behind the other.

I know that dollying the H2 is not an option without disengaging the transfer case, but even then not reccommended for a long trip.

The question is, does anyone know of a flatbed trailer rental agency that would rent one-way from New York to Montana?? I was thinking something like Penske or U-Haul but their trailers are pretty weak - - max out at around 3000lbs. load.

Also, can an H2 tow another H2 on a flatbed??? I've read up and see that the H2 is capable of towing 7000lbs so with a trailer I am going to be over that limit. Considering safety factors and that most of the trip is FLAT driving I think its doable.

Comments? or ideas for trailering an H2 with an H2??

I dont know if anyone rents trailers nationally that would carry the H2 most max out like said at 3-4k pounds. I think you would have to buy a trailer ($3k) then sell it when you get home. Just a 4-5ton equipment trailer would work good w/ electric brakes. You could rent a tow dolly ( this is what i would do.) Just dont let ryder or whoever see what your towing . I dont see any harm at all in towing the H2 with the transfer case disengaged ( what is your concern?) . If it makes you feel better take out the rear driveshaft. Your H2 will definetly haul the second truck no problem. Just use common sense and be careful. Doug

The H2 is made for flat towing. People drag them behind RVs all the time.

I realize that they are made for flat towing which is why I was thinking the flatbed. That setup for towing behind the RV doesn't look too temporary though.

Shipping on a open vehicle trailer is going to cost $1050 so to make it worthwhile it would have to be a very low cost option. Uhaul rentals would be about $300.

When you are trailering the H2 behind an RV would the H2 accumulate mileage?

I dont think it would . The transmission is what tells the speedo and mileage. Not sure though.

I actually have no idea on the mileage, PM one of the guys that are flat towing and ask.

Worst case is that you buy a flat tow drawbar setup and use it and then sell it after you're done.

Transfer case is disengaged, and milage doesn't accumulate.

I'm sure if you ask someone here to follow you from NY to Montana, they would. Of course for a small price.. Then you wouldn't have to worry about towing it at all. Just pay for their plane ticket back home. Try That..

Not to sound like an A$$ but... If you just purchased 2 H2's... Why are you concerned about an additional $1050??
