Re: $999 Pioneer will put factory Navi to shame
Pretty much anything will put the factory Navi to shame. The avics are good units, I had the N2 for a couple years, upgraded to the N3 software.. pretty much the same thing as the D's except the N's fold out of the dash. I have a Z1 now, the hdd feature is the coolest. For less than twice the price of that D3 you could get your wife a nice Z1!! think about it.

Re: $999 Pioneer will put factory Navi to shame
I made my own carputer a few years back. FWIW - I found DeLorme Street Atlas as well as MS Streets & Trips difficult to operate on a 7" touchscreen. As you can see in the picture in the description, you can't even read the bottom tabs. Had to use the magnifier very often. The on-screen keyboard doesn't seem meant for small screens either. Also a few other things to consider like start-up time, radio, etc. Mine was cool, but it wasn't practical, there are better options depending on what you want... media center, gps, both...etc.

Good to know deit!
I currently have Alpine NAV hooked up to a Necvox 6.5 screen, radio,tv,DVD and also running NAV to a SAVV rearview mirror. The Alpine is great but no touchscreen, so I thought of changing but if it's NG, I'll steer clear and do some more research!
TIA
