Cold morning low tire presure ligh when on

It was 39 degrees this morning in ny my light went on for short time then went off .There was a thread on this before . Next cold morning i will check and add air as needed.

The same thing routinely happens to me. I've got my tires at 35-36 psi, however on a cold morning my low pressure light will still come on. As soon as the tires warm up a bit, the warning light will go off.

It seems to me that the tire pressure sensors are a little too sensitive to pressure variations due to temperature changes.

For the first time mine, too, has lit up on a cold morning...and after the tire warms up a bit the light goes off. Guess this is just something that we will all have to deal with until they put out a fix for the little problem.

Yes happened to me today, but went off in less the a mile of driving.

Mine went on last Wed or Thurs when the temps dropped to around 31 degrees. Withing two miles the warning went off.
Sat. AM checked my tires in 40 degrees. They were at 31, added air to 35 psi. Last time I checked them it was 80 some degrees outside.
System is doing what it is supposed to do, warn you when the temps drop. Appears 29-30 is the point where the system goes on.
For every 10 degress drop in temp, there is a one degree drop in air pressure.

I agree. But it seems that the software that looks for the low pressure limits should have wider/longer checking parameters. At start up, if the tire is substantially under inflated, then fine - it ought to set off the warning. But if the tire is only slightly off pressure, the software shouldn’t send off a warning until the tire has had some driving time to warm up.

I live in a part of the country where can be a huge difference in temperatures during the day. This morning its was 32 degrees or so and now its nearly 70. So tire pressures are going to be all over the place. It just seems that the pressure warnings need to be a little more flexible than they presently are.

Experienced the same Tire pressure warning this week with temps dropping, after you drive for about 3 miles it should shut off, but it was driving me crazy, filled the tires with more air @ 50 PSI counting to 20 for each wheel. No more low pressure warning.

Sounds like a nice feature, if the startup ambient temp is around 40 or below, give a five mile warmup cycle before setting off the system. But I guess due to the litigious society we live in, the auto manufacturers will err on the side of safety.
We, on this forum, have to remember, the majority of drivers out there are stupid, and never check their tire pressure, unless something tells them to, or someone does it for them, or the police check it after they have rolled. NHTSA did a study about five years ago, and per their study, roughly over 70% of the drivers were driving on underinflated tires.
Honestly, the system turning on and just putting a message in my DIC did not bother me. I was actually expecting it to happen sooner or later. Made me run out on Friday and get a compressor.

light was going on every morning (monday thru friday) with temps around 40 deg. checked tire psi on cold morning (sunday) one was at 31.5 psi all others at 32 psi.Filled to 35psi and light is not going on.It seams like if there a little low on cold mornings light will come on.Checking psi regularly is best way to solve problem or wait for light to come on(than off) then check and add air as needed to tires.

Do you have the larger tires? The larger tires are suppossed to hold 35 psi cold. The smaller tires are 30PSI cold. If you have the smaller tires, and the light is coming on at 31 or 32 psi, then it's probably safe to say that your truck originally came with the larger tires, and the dealer did a tire swap before you bought it but did not do the appropriate reprogramming.

I have the adventure it came with 33 inch tires.Keeping tires at 35psi the lights not going on at all. I guess you have to keep a eye on your tire presure.

fill your tires to 35, and take it to the dealer so they can recalibrate it

Yes it is.
The tires should be checked cold, best time is in the AM. If it is 30 in the AM, and it warms to 50 during the day, the psi will raise from 35 to 37, but at night drop back down to 35.
I believe the Bridgetones are rated at 51 psi max, so if they go up from driving and warming temp, it will not affect them; unless you are going above the required 35 psi cold temp setting.

You guys have it easy. I live in the interior of Alaska and the temps finally started to fall ovet the last 2 days. Was down to about minus 5 degrees F. last night and now we won't see many "plus F" days until March/April next year. My tire pressure light is now on constantly so what do I do? Over-inflate a bit or keep checking everyday? Seems I liked the old days better when the tire "looked" low. you gave it some air. This system needs a bit more wiggle room in the sensitivity department. The developers/testers must have been from the southern states LOL

Yes, but it cannot be used per the new Federal Regs for tire pressure monitoring systems. The original way the NHTSA proposal was written was to include either direct monitoring systems or the comparative system; however, this was taken to court, and the end result is direct tire pressure sensors to be installed in all four tires.
Older GM cars such as some Pontiacs had this system. Problem with this system is that all four tires can drop to (for example) 20 psi, severely underinflated, and the system can't recognize the lower pressures in all tires. It is great to notice one low pressure tire.

When I go to the gas station to air up, and depending on the type of air system they have, I have to either dail in my desired psi or look at the "pop-up" pressure meter when I release the handle.

Either way is not very accurate, especially with the H3 tire pressure monitoring system that we have.

Question I have is: How are you getting an accurate psi reading when airing up? Are you all buying your own tire pressure gauges? Or compressors?

I use a digital tire presure gauge it also has a relese valve button for airing down buy 2 one for one side one for other goes twice as guick with a helper(wife).

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

SERVICE VME
H3 customers are reporting that the tire pressure warning light comes on when the vehicle is first driven in the morning and then goes off shortly thereafter. This condition is more prevalent on vehicles with 33 inch tires that are part of the Adventure package. Because of the large volume of air in this tire, it experiences a greater pressure drop overnight when the temperature gets cold. To avoid this, the tire pressures must be inflated to the "Cold Tire Pressure" indicated on the tire placard which is on the bottom of the driver side "B" pillar. Marginally low tire pressures will drop to the point of triggering a light in cold temperatures. Calibration of the tire pressure monitoring system cannot be changed as it is regulated by government standards. Let's avoid customer complaints for this issue by assuring the pressures are correct upon new vehicle delivery.
