Default Question about Aftermarket Airbox/filters

Some have said that an airbox/filter is a waste of money....ok here is a pic of a 07 300C SRT-8 with a factory installed cai.......

question is ...if its so bad then why the factory install???

Default Re: Question about Aftermarket Airbox/filters

A cold air intake is not always a bad idea. BUT, the media that is used is going to provide poor filtration compared to stock. The above media might be stock quality since its made for a car manufacturer. The engine is also tuned for it. On most vehicles that are stock, you see gains zero, zip, nada....

On a stock hummer, I doubt you get a gain.... On a highly modified one, where you surpass the stock filters capacity, probably....

I used to do a lot of work on diesel and dyno the results. We could put a CAI on a duramax or a powerstroke and not see a gain... The manufacturer would claim 25HP and 50 pounds of torque. But those gains were recorded on a dyno at 900-1100 rpms. They are totaly not useable.... The rest of the dyno graphs would sit on each other....

So, is putting 300 dollars into a new filtration system a good move? you be the judge... But dont expect to feel the difference on your SOTPD (seat of the pants dyno.....
