Default Defeating the Automatic Lights

Is there any way to defeat the automatic headlights without pulling the fuse? If you're out in the forest or in the brush at night and turn on the engine some outside lights always come on. I'm thinking of taking out the current switch and wiring in a direct switch to either turn on the day time running lights, or the headlights for night. I want the ability to turn off all the exterior lights at night. I know you can use the button to kill the inside lights.

w/ out looking at a wiring diag not sure, but I dont think the switch is actually turning on the lights. I'd bet the computer does that. If so your gonna want to put a switch on the power line after what ever module powers them.

I know if you turn the headlight switch counter clockwise (the switch rests on the auto setting. But will turn counter clockwise which points to a 'O' and springs back to auto) it will turn the headlights off. But I am not sure about the running lights.

**Edit I just went outside and cranked my truck up. It does turn the running lights off as well as the headlights.... At least sitting in the drive way it did. Not sure if something else happens when you put it in gear.
