Default I want nav and a back-up camera

How hard is it to put in a factory unit out of another GM.

I have the LUX package and Bose sound system.

I'd be very intersted to the answer for this as I have the identical setup. I just added one of those 2.5 inch $150.00 monitors and it is quite good but it aintH2 standards. Regards 'the rebel'

very easy kit to install, if you dont mind opening up your radio.

you are replacing the ribbion cable that goes from the board to the screen, then your video can bypass.

i did it in around 2hr

This set up isw not what I'm worried about.

What I'm asking is how hard is it to take a head unit with nav out of a GM and put it in my non- Nav HUmmer.

If you buy the right unit regardless if it is the non-touch screen (...4335) or the touch screen (15800001) it is plug and play. There may be a slight issue (easy to correct) if the truck is older than 2004, in that it might not have the VSS wire connected between the instrument cluster and the Radio harness.
If that is the case, PM me and I will walk you through it.

Taking the dash apart is a little involved but the forum has a good procedure.
Make sure you buy a good unit, a H2 gps antenna ( I know a guy in Michigan that has good antennas and reasonably priced) and the newer V 1.0 map disk (ebay or a member here that is willing to make a copy)- Version 4.0 you see on ebay, is the older version, they went to another company for maps and restarted with 1.0. That is the newest (matches exactly the Gamin City Navigator 8.0 - latest release September 2006).

Once the dash bezel is out of the way, you unscrew the old radio ( 3 screws), connect the antenna to the back and the 2 radio plugs. Put the new unit back in, it should line up perfectly with the mounting holes. Now for the antenna, I taped it inbetween the air ducts as far forward as possible, and secure it there just so that it does not move around in there.

That is it. Now take the truck to the dealer to have the VIN relearned if you bought a previousely installed unit or not if your unit is brand new.

To the backup camera question, if you want the backup monitor on the nav, you might need to buy the 199.00 RGB convertor on eBay, open up the radio and replace the ribbon. That gives you a Video input for a DVD, game console etc. and a signal sensing backup monitor option but you have to connect a wire to the reverse light circuit (in the driver kick panel under the square plastic box, upper right corner, Green wire).

I did my set-up differently, I already had a 3.5 in hi rez monitor made by Fahrenheit and I connected it to the camera directly. This monitor I have ($ 150.) has 2 video inputs. I use the regular one with trigger for the backup and use the other one as a rear view mirror coupled with a wireless camera mounted on the back of my RV when I tow it.

There are some good post explaining this on the forum. You will need a Lux nav head unit, nav antenna ,and map disc. I aquired everything for about $650.00(factory nav) from ebay and gm parts direct. Install took about 45 minutes.

Pimp, what set up did you go with for the reverse cam? How do you like it?
