Went "Home Creepo" they looked the hole in the step and said it looked like it would be 7/16 but they do not carry that size  |

Get yourself a thread guage, and all your questions will be answered! 
Should be about $5 at your local auto parts store.
Any good machine shop or auto parts
whole-seller should carry any kind of bolt/nut in the world, and if they don't, they could make 'em for you.
