Friends:

I just bought a 2005 H2 [Black, adventure package, GPS, XM radio]. I take delivery tonight.

Here's my question. After I signed everything, they asked me to sign a notice that the car is "not equipped to be driven with chains." I would have bought the car anyway, but I was planning to put chains on for dirt roads covered with snow.

Here's my question: Does anyone know anything about this? Has anyone run the H2 with chains?

Thanks,

George

All the local Hummer dealers will tell you that you can't use chains or that you must use S-type chains. If you talk with, e.g., Salt Lake City dealers, they will say that they use chains all the time. GM doesn't know squat and keeps referring you to the owner’s manual. I’m a ski patrolman in Southern California, and didn’t need them in the deepest snows of this season running stack tires.

Bottom line, if you use them, is “keep them snug!” Use spanners and drive slowly for 50’ or so and retighten. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THEY DO TO YOUR TRUCK!

Thanks Tower. Makes complete sense and sounds like the same advice applicable to using chains on ANY vehicle.

Best regards,

George
