Will Line-X hold up well on removeable side steps. I know they are painted cast aluminum. After one winter I have bare metal showing sides, most likely from impact from tires. Should I bring this up with dealership for warranty?

This is what I was told. In order for the Line-X to hold up, the powder coating needs to be removed completely because it flakes off and the bonding agent Line-X uses won't keep it together. Thus they won't guarantee the application.
If you sandblast the steps, then you'll be fine.

If you want a do it yourself solution, try using a drill with a wire brush to remove the old finish and rough them up. Then us a good primer and follow up with Duplicolor bedliner. This has worked for me and I only have to touch them up every 6 months or so. The best part of it is that they aren't as slippery with this on them.

I had my AMP Research Power Steps Line-X'd. They were powdercoated, and started chipping within 1 1/2 years. So far(1 year) the Line-X is still pefect!

Another vote for the rattle can DupliColor.
I wire brushed my side steps and followed Phil's instructions and they've held up amazingly well considering how much we use the steps loading/unloading the kids from the back seats, etc. Just make sure you remove ALL of the loose paint from the steps before spraying them.

Like Dochummer said, it's easier to clean than cloth and kids like to spill stuff, besides, they're still in child car seats
