Default Moving a Safe

Just got a estimate from my relocation company on what they wanna charge me to move my gun safe upstairs.

$1000.00 Labor
$1200.00 Rigging Material
$2550.00 for Truck Rental

I live on the 3rd floor of my apartment complex. My apartment has no balcony(No outside access for a crane).
My safe weighs 650lbs(empty).
The leasing agent, and their maintenance folks have approved for me to have the safe in my apartment(Weight limitations).
Want to know what a reasonable amount of $ would be to have it moved.
There are 2 flights of stairs, and the stairs are wide enough to move the safe all the way up.
I have been told there is a dolly that is motorized, that safe movers use for cases like this.
Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Ric

Reasonable price would be a 12-pack of beer, maybe some hamburgers and chips if you are nice. Get your friends to do it!

I would imagine that 4 guys and an appliance doll would get the job done. Assuming the stairs are strong enough to hold that kind of weight. I wouldn't do it with wooden stairs. I bet you could get it up the stairs for the cost of a dolly rental and a case of beer for the helpers. Just my .02

The stairs are made of concrete, and would hold the safe, but there's only enough room for 2 guys to be side by side!
It would have to be a hell of a dolly to hold this thing!

Ok...this is going to sound ghey...but just get 2 guys on top, and 2 guys on bottom. I would imagine they have to have dollys that can handel that kind of weight.

I've got an Asian surgeon(45yrs old), a Femm whiteboy lawyer(Don't wanna know how old), and a surfer guy(100lbs soaking wet).

Not too many choices!

http://www.newhaven-usa.com/moving3.shtml#03 ...random website...has at least a handful of dollies that are rated 750lbs+...would imagine it wouldnt be too hard to find one locally.

So this is an apartment complex that only has 4 residents? Make Ken help (you are in VA...right?)....and I am sure he has one or two friends. 650lbs isnt THAT much if you have a dolly.

Get a second or third estimate.Total rip off.

If your getting relocated maybee your company will cover it,My brother in law was told $1500 to ship a project car the company paid.He than bought a flatbed trailer for $1500 and moved it himself.

I would like to reiterate...I am not kidding. You buy me a plane ticket and I will find a way to get that thing upstairs (assuming it is already downstairs somewhere). I have Fri-Sun off.

Bet that would make for some good video. I can be resourceful...I bet I could find a way that wouldnt involve bodily injury.

Hey Ric, my uncle sells safes that size/weight and delivers them with two people. I'll email and ask how he does it. I'll post back as soon as he answers.
