I accepted a job offer
My first "real" job! I have accepted an offer to work at a Dodge dealership. So I go and fill out all the paper work on Monday, and then hopefully I'll start working shortly thereafter. It's a draw pay system--I don't really know how that will go--but I just want the experience more than the actual cash so when I go to a dealership I really want to work at, I can say I have experience.
So if you need a Dodge in western Mass, you could PM me or something...

Re: I accepted a job offer
Congrats on the job Aubs.
I was doing sales for Nissan back in 89' for about a year and it was a fun job. You can make an excellent living if you have the drive in you. There'll be some slow periods too so be prepared for some depression. I remember breaking a record by selling over 20 Pathfinders in April, but when May came around, it was a struggle to even sell 2. It's a rollercoaster ride.

Congrats on the new job. Keep us posted on how it actually works out. I've always thought that selling cars/trucks would be fascinating.

Re: I accepted a job offer
Do not take short cuts when sellling!
Save for those slow months, like Dennis has said.
Be upfront and don't beat around the bush when talking to your clients.
Most people will say that being a car salesman is a job you get when you can't get a job. But there are few who can make damn good money at it if they work hard. I sold Chev, Olds and Jeeps. I Made excellent money at it, the money I made from it and stashed away helped me to have more fun after I retired (at age 40) from being a Fed.
I wish you well, but don't forget about your love of skiing!

Re: I accepted a job offer
I sold cars for a few years starting when I was 19. Great money for a young guy and the career possibilities are endless. Congrats.

$100k/yr? And to think... I went easy on the negotiation of my H3 because my young salesman kept talking about his 2-3 kids! Good thing I stuck it to 'em on the H2!

Re: I accepted a job offer
As we used to say, their is an A$$ for every seat. Some people you make money on some you don't. I made the 100k on the 03 H2 when people would pay if they wanted it. I'm sure it's much less now.
But sir, your taking food out of my kids mouth.....

Re: I accepted a job offer
Try and sell the oldest one's, they normally have a cash bonus attached if you did.
I would also put envelopes on the wall and each one would have from $10.00 to $100.00 cash. And everytime you sold a car on the weekend you got to pick one. And then I would buy Pizza and beer for everyone after we closed on Saturday or go to the bar and buy everyone a round or two of drinks.
Hmmm, maybe I will come join you. I miss the fun!

Congrats and good luck, Aubs! Are you still going to school while working at the Dodge dealer?
