Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
There are really only several tools needed to make the change. Phillips screwdriver, 7mm socket, 13mm open end (ratchet box end worked better) a stiff putty knife or two and a small wonder bar. There is also a tool that I will show a picture of that costs about $20 that pops the door panel retaining clips off with out damage. I also wrapped the putty knife and pry bar with painters tape to avoid scratches to the paint.
First remove the door bezel Phillips screw.

Pictures resized, so can move forward. Phillips screw (1) comes out first.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
Once the bezel is removed, then there are two 7mm hex head screws that need to be removed.

Tape the putty knife and wonder bar to avoid scratching things.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
This next part is rather stressful. With the putty knife and wonder bar pry the power window control group loose in the door panel. Keep working it around, it pops and cracks but will come out safely.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
Every thing in the door (electrical) plugs in to this panel except the courtesy light. Work the plugs out, they have little latches and the panel is marked to easily replace the plugs when you are done.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
Push the wires and plugs back down into the door panel.
This is the slick panel puller tool. Well worth the $20 bucks.
Note: Put painter's tape on the back of the tool, it will be pushed under the door panel to pop the door panel off.
Once the panel is poped of, you will find only one wire attached, the courtesy light. I just twisted the panel around and leaned it against the door.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
The door is covered with a water liner the upper right corner in the picture, needs to be peeled back, I cut the glue with a utility knife......about 12 or 14 inches each way from the upper right corner.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
When you get the water liner pulled back.....I secured it with a long piece of panter's tape down to the bottom of the door to keep it out of the way.
Pull the clip that secures the mirror wire to the inner metal liner of the door after pulling it through the water liner.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
First clip to slide off the door to start to free the wire.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
The second retractor clip is plastic and you can slide your hand in and release the wire from the clip without pulling clip loose from the body. It snaps open like a door to free the wire.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
The last wire holder is a push in "T" type that looks like the wire is taped to it. Pull on both sides of the wire and it will slip off. When you replace it later, fold the top of the "T" together and slide the tape back over it and it will hold the wire.
These steps are important, notice that all of these clips keep the wire for the mirror clear of the power window. Need to be award of that and make sure it is clear when you re-install.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
Next use the 13mm box end rachet wrench to remove the nuts that are behind the glass. The studs have a starter section and do not fall off. Small hands like mine do not hurt this situation. Remember only the three nuts behind the glass.
Get a helper to support the mirror, and then remove the final nut, then the helper can keep the mirror from falling and scratching the paint.
Of the three mirrors I have changed, I did drop one of the nuts into the door. Used an extendable magnet and had it out in a moment.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
Now just reverse all the steps and put it back together. Make sure the wires clear the window channel.

Re: Quick and easy H2 mirror change
I used 3M weather stripping glue to hold the water liner back up prior to installing the door panel. This last part tricked me. See the rod that must fit into the slider that locks the door. Make sure it is lined up as you put the plastic door cover back on. Make sure that the slider locks the door before you replace the power window panel.
Good luck!
