recon smoke cab lights
i was looking at the smoke colored recon cab lights and just wondering when they are on, does the red have a light red/pink color to them??? ...my brother has the ipcw and when his on, it has a light red/pink color to them due to the red colored bulb used in them. he ended up changing the bulb out with a red led and now its a deep red that matches the rest of the lights...i was looking at the putco ion chrome with leds but they are $250 versus the recon for $100...

Re: recon smoke cab lights
yes, the bulbs that came with my smoked Putco had a very pinkish tint... I went through many different leds and found these to be the brightest red so far... Call around the bigger name auto stores, as I don't remember but I think I bought them from Pep Boys. In case the photo disappears, the number on the package is 168R, they are Blazer Xtreme Lites series, 2 bulbs, 12 volts...

Re: recon smoke cab lights
ok, disregard my old previous advice. I just picked up another new set of the Recon smoked Cab Lights, and went to AutoZone for the Blazer 168R bulbs, and the bulbs are showing a pinkish tint to them too. I don't know if anything has changed or if I was high, but I could of swore they were a bright red last time...
That being said, now that I look at them again, I think I might actually like the pink

Re: recon smoke cab lights
I used the smoke colored recon cab lights for a week - I did not like them so I took them off. I will be stending the money on the putco brand led. I could not find a bulb that looked good in the recon brand.

wow yes, I thought it was something I did. Those three do not touch the metal roof, big space there, the others were fine. I was thinking of a few different things, one was to go to Home Depot and get some weather stripping like for a house door or window. I am guessing clear silicon caulk would work too but would be messy...
There is a guy selling the actual roof light gaskets on ebay (link below) but he wants $45 and there still might be a gap when we are done...There must be some other gasket we can get and cut it to fit

Re: recon smoke cab lights
I just used a $3 tube of silicone. works fine. Might be a little messy when I have to change a bulb though.

Re: recon smoke cab lights
I did the same. Yea there is a big gap. I also cut town the width of the post because that is what holds it up off the top of the truck because the post is larger than factory

Re: recon smoke cab lights
I first tried the the black caulk, dumb move, very messy... I wiped it off and went with the clear 100% silicone and it worked and looked great...

The best red bulbs are Polarg M-21.. You can't get them through Pep boys.. Goto carboutique.com
Its a local car/truck place in Chicago, and these bulbs are a pure RED, no pink..
here's a pic of them on a different link.. http://www.optionstage.com/polarg-mini-m21.html

damn, those suckers are about $10-13 a pair. I am liking the pink even more at this point. hehe... Seriously though thanks for the tip, I might give em a shot... I went with all 10 of them red, or should I say pink on the top,.. looks kinda cool... Only yellow left are the side markers and I was thinking of doing those red too, but it's a tad illegal I hear...
