Do I really need to get that crap from Hummer? Why did they make the hitch pin hole vertical?

The hole is vertical because it was the easiest and cheapest way for them to make that receiver (somewhat) useful.
If you plan on using it, then yes, you might "need" the kit. I got my pin from partsguy because my *Cadillac* parts guy coudn't find one in his book, and insisted that it was just a regular pin. Sometimes it's better to just walk away from people like that. LOL
As for my plans for a receiver mount winch, I'm just going to get a second heavy duty extension bar, and drill a vertical hole in it.

VT -- Master Lock 1480DAT reciever lock works good for me with the winch. $17.95 at Amazon. I saw it at Home Depot for $15.

Potentially wrong part number -- sorry about that.
Here's the Master Lock options. I'm not at home so can't tell you exactly which one is best. Again, sorry about that.

Thanks guys!
I am going to do some looking and see what i can turn up! I want to use it as a combo for winch (at some point) and moving boats/trailers - peoples houses!

Rodster:
I see they have both 1/2" and 5/8" diameter pins. The hole in the H2 front receiver is 5/8".
BTW: Does anyone know the size of the hole in the Warn multi-mount carrier that is made for the H2?
Thanks,
George

George,
The pin I have has the sleeve that adapts the 1/2 to 5/8. It is similar (identical, probably) in appearance to the one in the pic above.
I drilled my own 5/8 hole in the multi-mount and can't imagine that the pre-drilled hole on the Hummer-specific mount would be anything different. If it were 1/2 there'd be too much slop in the fit?
