I am debating if it's a good idea to use my '03 for towing? Thinking about picking up an used Miata for track which is roughly 2500lbs + an open trailer in which I've been told is roughly 1000lbs. I know I shouldn't worry too much since this is only half the maximum towing capacity but given the fact few ppl here had experienced tranny problems already and the fact our H2s are rather heavy to begin with... I was thinking about upgrading the stock tranny before it goes bad on me?

Now I know they have high performance tranny built for racing. But do they have high performance tranny built for towing? If so, how much money are we talking about?

You should be able to pull that setup without any trouble.

My transmission problem came with 38" tires and 6500# trailer. (I guess there is a limit)

You'll be fine pulling that weight, wilfred.

Doing some autocross?

Thanks all. I guess I am just a worry cat Well, if someone come across info on tranny built for towing, please let me know. Afterall, my warranty is expiring in a few months and I did not buy the extended warranty. I sorta blew that money on something better... a GOBI rack i think

Yeap, it's one of those thing I've always wanted to do. From what I've heard, the miata is a great beginner's car because it's cheap(used one of course), rear wheel drive, great balance, and under-powered! Do you autox?
