I read this over on the Jeep board and thought I'd post it here.
It's a tragic reminder in the value of always being prepared, and never wheeling alone.

In a nutshell, two tourists took a rented Wrangler up into the mountain in Utah. After getting stuck and living on melted snow and Skittles for 3 days, they tried to hoof it out on foot. The girlfriend couldn't make any farther, and told the b/f to save himself. He found help within a few hours, but she was dead when they found her.
With a little common sense, this never would have happened.
NEVER Wheel alone.
ALWAYS tell someone where you are going.
ALWAYS be prepared for the terrain and weather conditions.

Wow this is horrible. I say to myself "this would never happen to me" and think that I'm prepared, I would be able to get out of such a situation, etc., but it's yet a sobering reminder not to be overly adventurous.

Absolutely tragic. Even if it weren't for snow, what if something just brokedown or the engine quit?
Most likely it was his idea...and now he has the death of his girlfriend to live with the rest of his life.

That's tragic! The news report is so choppy that I can't tell how they proceeded on a closed road so far beyond markers.
There are small and remote roads around here too and it's common sense that you don't venture past signs that read closed nor proceed when the road is completely blocked.
