What would you do?

Ok so I stumbled upon a little gem here. I have the oppurtunity to trade my Orange H2 with 11k miles on it and 10 grand for this 03 Blue Soft-Top H1 with 1300 miles. Now, I have driven both. Frankly I like driving the H1 more. What would you guys do? please disregard matinence issues. Also, I have plans to buy an h1 in the next 2 years, this sweet deal fell in my lap, and it happens to be my second favorite color.

The funny thing about the soft-top...owners either love 'em or hate 'em. You hear "I got rid of mine and would NEVER own one again"....or "it's the only model I'd ever own"

tough call, tough call. As for me, I'm inclined towards the soft-top...it's lighter and more spunky-looling. The wagon is bulky and has that huge flat-roof going on. Yes, the wagon is more practical......but since when has Hummer been anything about practical????

Fistville. Remember comfort and on-road handling is your opinion not someone elses. Before I bought my H1 I test drove an H2. Comfort to me was not there. I have driven my H1 at 85mph and it was smooth sailing the whole way. Fact is I didn't even know I was going that fast. I don't like stepping down or up into a vehicle either so the H2 was too high for me. The H1 is an easy slide in for me. But then again this is just my opinion and it shouldn't matter.

The deal sounds good though.

I just saw a similar deal. They were selling brand new 01 H1s for the same price as an H2. For ****s and giggles I test drove it. The H2 all the way for me. I was so uncomfortable in that H1. BTW, all you H1 guys, how do you press on the gas pedal without cramping your leg? Mine got very sore...

I'd stick with the H2. The H1 is so uncomfortable and unpractical.

I noticed something no one touched on here, everyone talks about the off-road factor. Are you planning to go off-road? If not and you want it as a Cruiser then maybe the H1 is for you, it will grab lots of attention and give you big smiles and plus after a year go back and grab a H2 if you want to. However, if you plan on using this as a daily driver or going off-roading with it Steve R makes a good point and maybe the H2 is for you, but remember that this offer doesn't happen everyday.

The decision for me would be whether the vehicle serves as your daily driver. Further, how much do you drive on a daily basis?

If you drive the vehicle every day, but only commute 15 miles or less to work; then I'd go with the H1.

Others have mentioned most other considerations.

I don't see too many H2s, maybe 1 or 2 a week, but I see H1s everyday. Every time I see H1 I love that look and I'd switch instantly. The open back is the best looking one, but rather not useful, I'd lose the use and security of the space in the back.

We drive to LA and back maybe 2-4 times a year, a few years even 7-8 times a year. 6-7 hours of 400 miles one way with traditional fastfood stops. That is usually my best judge for vehicle usefulness or reliability. Would I dare to drive X vehicle to LA and back? if not, that is not a vehicle for me. I don't have the time and energy to have a vehicle sit there just for weekends, personally I am convinced based on my 25 years of ownership experience, the less you drive a vehicle, the more problem you will have. I had few perfect cars turned bad just because I did not drive them often, once a month or 2 months. To a point, it became a burden just to force ourselves to drive these cars. "Honey, you better drive that SL today." "Can you please drive the V12? that hasn't been driven in a month." Joy turned into work.

I have absolute confidence in H2, 4 trips to LA/San Diego and back.

Well I went back in the next day to give a test drive (I have driven a 99 soft top) and the car was sold. It sold in the hour the place was open till after I left. Im still in the market though. Here is my thing about the two bodies. I like the wagon better visual, but the rear visibility is just abysmal. The soft top has fairly good rear visibility. I also noticed this on hummer.com on their 3d tours. The wagon seems to have 3 sets of speakers while the soft top has 2. please please please say this isnt so. Oh and btw, there is a summer and winter softop, and the summer just rolls up to the front of the car and is held right above the windshield, when released all you have to do is push down on the fitting.

What it all comes down to is personal preferrence. Asking the forum what you should do is like asking us what you should have for dinner. I could probably drive either all day long if I choose too. Although I don't have an H2, I recently through out my back. I have a Ford Sport Trac and an H1. I had to make a bunch of sales calls. I took the H1. I was extremely comfortable. I usually drive the sport trac and around that same time my back hurt while driving the sport trac, and never in the H1.

So comfort is a lot different for everyone.

I had a similar choice, but even closer: price was not a factor. I chose to stick with the H2. After considering everything, I think the H2 is a superior vehicle in almost every way.

The only factors in the H1's favor: 1) Rarity -- I hate to pass anyone else driving what I'm driving, 2) it's still the /only/ vehicle you can buy that's actually deployed by the military and maybe and 3) cred among those who haven't studied things as carefully as yourself.

But those are all rather superficial factors.

Join the HML. Read few hundred topics. Pretend they were the same price. Consider everything. You'll probably tip toward the H2, probably strongly.

Decisions, decisions. Here is the question: Does the H1 outperform the H2 in:

On-road=No
Off-road=Not really, maybe in some situations but the H2 does better in others. Where we have been driving the trails are too damn narrow for the H1.
Comfort=Not even close!

It's important to remember the only reason the H1 is so much more expensive than the H2 is because it is not mass produced. All around the H2 is a much better vehicle and I guarantee some day (if you off-road) an H2 will go somewhere you can't in your H1!

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Stick with your H2 and enjoy everything it can do.

I'm with HeeHaw. I love my H2, but take the give-away and then buy another H2 at a discount in a couple of months. You can always sell the H1-maybe for a profit.

Plus the color isn't bad. I had one exactly like it for a demo while mine was in the shop. Pretty cool rig. Other than my ass hurt and my right leg went numb on long drives.
