Anyone have one and on a machine? Not breathing good at night and going in next month to a sleep clinic.

Ken just went through all that and so did my Dad. I'll let him come on and tell you about it.

I did, too. The sleep center said I "woke up" 24 times an hour. It's less than half that now. Furhter pressure adjustments may happen in the future.
Another plus to the study was the discovery that I have RLS. That's been stopped with Miraplex.

Tell your wife to stop putting the pillow on your face.
Have you tried Breath Rite nose strips? Could be as simple as that. Hopefully it doesn't require surgery.

Re: sleep study
What do you need to know?
Take your own pillow, I didn't for the first one and it stunk.
Before the test they'll hook you up to a ton of wires and you'll look pretty goofy. The gummy stuff they use on your head to hold the electrodes is nasty and you'll want to shower before doing anything the next day. Take a hat.
At a certain point during your sleep you'll be woken and hooked up to a CPAP. During this time they'll adjust the pressure in an attempt to find out what pressure works best for you. You may not sleep well during this time so make the next day's schedule accordingly.
You may not like the mask they put on you, I didn't so I didn't sleep much at all. Before the insurance company would pay for the machine, I had to go back for another study to make sure the CPAP would work for me.
For the second study I was prepared with my own mask by going to the doctor and being fitted for it ahead of time. Things went much better and everything was satisfied for the insurance company.
It's been close to a month now and I'm getting pretty used to it, sleeping almost the entire night with it on. When I do, I get a hell of a lot of things done around the house because I'm full of energy. My eyes aren't red and the bags are mostly gone now.
I have this one with a humidifier.

Don't be afraid you'll get the one at the sleep center. The one's they use are big and ugly. Noisier, too.

The above that Ken wrote is correct...just remember everyone is different...i went to the V.A. for my study (i was snooring so loud i woke myself up), i remember them telling me that i stopped breathing many times...
To me the BIG thing is the correct mask...they first did the nasal tubes, they SUCK and it doesn't even feel good...then they gave me a soft side nasal mask, only problem is its very comfortable but now i'm breathing through my mouth which defeats the mask...
next week i'm going in to be fitted for a FULL FACE MASK,hopefully that that will solve it...
losing weight is suppose to help but not in every case...surgury i would avoid until you have tried EVERYTHING else...you may be fine with the idea BUT...can cause other problems...
good luck...

Re: sleep study
can you just walk in to have this done or does your Doctor have to send you?
seeing that needles are not a part of it, I want to look into it more.
