Default Brand new with a dented roof

Hello everyone! I just picked up a 2k7 red H3 last Friday. On Saturday I looked down at it from my house and noticed that there was a large, basketball sized dent in the roof (drivers side near the back). I called the dealership and they told me that %95 of the H3 they get have some type of 'warped metal' because they are SOOO wide...They also said that they could not fix it because every time they try, they end up making it worse.

So, I called GM. GM/Hummer customer support called the dealership and got the same BS answer. The server manager at the dealership told them it was a factory problem. GM told me that there is nothing they can do and that it is also NOT something that the warranty would cover! OMG!

I'm trying to wrap my brain around this. Has anyone else seen this issue or heard of it? How in the world can GM back the dealership on this?

Thoughts?

sounds like bull**** they're saying but you never know. when I got mine I noticed paint imperfection on the hood, maybe 1.5-2" long or so - it looks like a faint smear/scratch of off-white paint but impossible to rub it off or clean (it's still there..) - I didn't make a big deal out of it because we liked the vehicle otherwise, and we figured that sooner or later we get dents from parking lots and scratches from tree branches... but a basketball size dent seems huge

That's bull$hit, sounds like they sold you a damaged vehicle. Be it lot damage, shipping, or at the plant. Somebody should be manning up and fixing it though. The guy that washed it before you took delivery could have climbed up there to clean it off...who knows...somebody should be making it right though. You really need to spread the word if that dealer/general manager doesn't make it right.

Yeah send us some pics, I work at the plant and thats Bullcrap what the dealer said, width has nothing to do with a huge ol' dent on your roof. Let me know if you cant get anything done and I'll put you in contact with some people that truely do care.

Park the vehicle on the dealers lot, by the front door, write lemon on the inside of the winshield and lock it up. Go rent another vehicle and within 24 hours you will have a new vehicle and your rent paid........trust me.

Hummer3, that wouldnt work becuase the lemon law only works if you have the same problem 3 times that is LIFE THREATENING in some way, ex sterring column, suspension. and most if you win the case, they get one more shot at fixing it. A dent would never work for the lemon law, otherwise everyone would file for it. My moms done it twice with a BMW and once with a Mercedes, but with mercedes we worked it out seperatly.

As for the dent problem i have never seen a dent on the roof of an H3, other than people running into some branches and stuff. do you have the sunroof, if so is it near it? might have something to do with that. And if width had something to do with it then pretty much every H1, H2, Suburban, Tahoe, and every other large SUV would have the same issue. Have you tried asking a shop to see if it is possible to remove with making it worse?

I agree, corporate would not fix it my way, the dealer would. They would not want the bad PR.

MrInfoSys,

My '06 had it, my new '07 has it, several of the loaner vehicles I've driven
"without" a sunroof have had it........Folks at the dealership thought I was
crazy until I kept pointing it out to them.

You have to look close and at an angle but it is there....

It seems to be a manufacturing flaw of some sort, just like the warped
panels on either side of the front/rear door seam. That one seems to
be worse on the passenger side than the drivers.

These distortions and orange peel paint are way to common for my tastes.
However I have chosen to just deal with it and enjoy the vehicle as it is.

This go-round I just said frakk it and installed some cross bars.

I don?t think I would really classify these things as dents, it?s
more like a distortion or warpage of the panels.

Same for the door things I mentioned earlier..

At any rate??

They are located above and behind the driver side / rear passengers head,
flowing inwards towards the center of the vehicle.

It will be a shallow indentation about the size of a paper plate,
with no sharp edges or creases. On my 2 black H3's it's been pretty easy to spot,
Not sure about the lighter colors. Look from the front towards the rear
at an angle. If it's there, you will see it regardless of which step you are
standing on (DS vs. PS).

My salesman, service manager and the accessories manager have
seen 'em....but only after I pointed them out. They have had no
input regarding any possible causes....But then again, there is really
isn?t much they can say other than to agree it's a manufacturing
defect. I?m just glad I was finally able to show them in person?.

Before?. I got banned from the lot as some crazy @ss redneck.

I wonder if there is a structural support under that particular spot on
the roof with some sort of tack weld between it and the roof panel?

I will be taking mine to the body shop Monday for some UNRELATED
paint work?..I?ll ask those guys if they have any idea what?s
going on.

I've tried that before with limited success.....

Cheap camera + black truck = sucky pics

That's why I was glad the guys at the dealership saw it.

They were the first one's to call bull**** on me...right Hummer Guy?

Maybe I can lay a straight edge across it and shoot the gap.

We?ll see what comes out.

As for the ban threat.....

Cool, that would give me something new to put in my tag line.

I noticed it on my '06, immediately, as well as the door creases. I looked very closely at both issues, and found that they were not dented, but the way the metal was pressed out during manufacture.

I see your red H3, and it does look like a dent, but looking at my H3, out of my upstairs window, I see the same thing in the same place. I know it isn't dented, but from a certain view at a certain angle, it looks terrible.

I never thought much about these issues, until I read this thread, so figured I'd chime in and let you know you're not alone.
