I have had a day of looking at used H1's. I found one in southern Michigan.
`96 H1 wag. 5.7 winch etc, and it only had 39,720 miles for $38,000.
when I pulled up to look it was leaching rust out from the roof seams where it meets the alluminum body behind the doors. I didn't think this was possable? but the was rust bubbles under the paint below the widows was terrible ,and the under hood area had rust on everything.
I was not happy to say the least.I would think some folks would have taken better care so the investment didn't fade.

Yetti,
Finding an H1 can take a long time. There's a lot of beaters out there, but there are a some good ones. Try calling down to Lynch HUMMER, they usually have more trucks then whats listed on their website and Jim's a great guy with a top notch dealership.

I saw much rust, but like you said its not on the body, everything made of steel weather it had paint or not had rust.
the vent hose to the air filter from the china cap was rotten also.

What you are seeing is something called Galvanic Corrosion. It's when you have two dissimilar metals combined together.
This happens with Hummers that have been exposed to harsher climates. It can happen to any one of them, however.
I fail to understand how the area under the hood had any rust. It's fiberglass.
