i love my new H3. that said, i have to admit that i know little about the hummer and its history. i traded in my BMW M3 for this beast and i am getting bashed by a lot of people on the other forums i go to. its been called a trouble prone american vehicle all the way to a fake hummer.
so, i ask you this...
1. is the H3 really a hummer and why? i mean, its a GM.
2. how does one argue the point that the H3 is a real hummer?
yes, i am a little to old for boy-ish online fights, but as an avid car/truck enthusiast it would be nice to have some good solid arguments when a heated discussion/debate occurs.
thanks!!!

The best way to win an argument
is to just,
1. smile
2. turn around
3. and walk away

THIS IS A REAL HUMMER!!!!!!!! Of course it is better around town but it is fantastic off-road aswell. Exterior styling is "HUMMER." Off-road Performance is "HUMMER" and so is everything else. People dont like the fact that HUMMER is growing. You see, the daddy H1 as just discovered viagara.

All Hummer's after the H1 are built in the spirit of it's tradition. Given the recent Q&A with the new marketing director for Hummer it's obvious GM is being careful that any new vehicles that get the Hummer name have real off-road capabilities and are in keeping with the original H1's tradition. All Hummers originated from the military's High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). Even the Hummer name is an english corrected/derived version of the military abbreviation.

I was in the Walmart parking lot when a guy in a VW Bug made a comment about the H3 not being a real Hummer. I pointed to my Spare Cover (Hummer H3) and told him if he thought it was false advertising, sue GM.
I then showed him the climbing ability by climbing and crushing his VW. (Well, that's what I thought about doing, but didn't. My insurance doesn't cover that.)
It is a Hummer to me, and I make the payments.

The proper response is...
"Nah, it's not a real Hummer. I got a REAL one from your girlfriend last night."

I agree with crop000s...It it just not worth your time. I get that with the H2, and I imagine everyone gets it here and there. Some people just do not understand that we bought them because we like them...

I had an additional insert that was in the little zip loc baggy that was in the glove compartment that listed where and what percentage the parts were from that made up the H3. I'll have to go dig it up, unless I tossed it.

I got the H3, which is not a real Hummer.
I got a Porsche 996 Turbo, which is not a real 911.
I got a Porsche Boxster, which is not even a real Porsche.
I got sooooooo tired of these "not-a-real-blabla" discussion...
...I've decided to simply show em the finger.

i got a jeep wrangler that "wasn't a real jeep"
i got a BMW 325ci that "wasn't a real BMW"
i got the M3, paid a lot of money, and it "WAS A REAL BMW" ...then i got tired of it
now i have an H3 and you know what? its a badass looking SUV with the best off-road ability off the lot with no mods when compared to other brands.

Not too many people outside the auto industry use that phrase "purpose built."
I take it in your figures you are not taking into account the supplier supplied content that GM has outsourced for the H2 and the H3, or the panels on the H3. Just curious.

Thanks HN,
Kinda reminds me of the good old days, long before the troll poachers became the kings of mayhem. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Was it a real VW bug. Either way if it was the new beetle you could have told him it is not a real bug. If it was an original beetle then you could have thanked him for polluting the environment.
