Has anyone ever been pulled over for an "improper lane change". I was driving highway 24 outside of CO springs today. I was behind some yahoo going 40 mph in the fast lane. I pulled over to pass him on the right. No one was within 100 yards behind me. All of the sudden I see a cop sitting in the median and his red lights go on. I couldn't figure out what was going on, then realized he was coming for me, so I pull over. I'm wondering...what the heck? I wasn't speeding or doing anything out of the ordinary. He gets out of his car, walks up behind my rig, taps that rear side a couple of times, eyes it a little bit, looks in and gives a big smile. Then he comes to the window and says to me, while I look in astonishment, "did you know you made an improper lane change"? I'm thinking.....you just weaved in and out of traffic, put 15-20 people in danger, drove like a madman to catch up to me just to tell ME I made an unsafe lane change? Of course, all I did was smile and give him my license. While I'm looking for my registration he says "don't worry, I'm not going to give you a ticket or anything. I'll be right back". A few minutes later he gives me my license back and says "have a good day".

My guess is that he just wanted a look at the H2 (not that I blame him). How often does anyone get pulled for a lane-change violation? I had a similar experience at work. The guard at the drive-in gate stops me to look at my ID. Normally, you just flash the ID from your car while driving through. When I gave him a funny look as he approached my window he say "actually, I just wanted a look at your rig". :-)

Lobster, it was, in no way, directed at you. It was directed at the punk who was trying to garner points by responding to you. No worries, I served as well.

We haven't had any Happenings since you and I spoke, except for that one I told you about.

If you want to wheel, a group of us are going to Tellico next month. It's about 10-11 hours for you but will be worth it, I think.

Heehaw.....way cool of you!!

You are not only a big man (for being able to apologize), but also The Man!

All fines will be waived and nothing will show on your record....providing you attend a certain "traffic" school....

This weekend, March 22nd...we're running the Silverado Canyon trail. It's a Beautiful scenic trail, no scratches or paint issues....just Hummers and fun...and yes...it's on a Saturday. What's more, it's close to you!

If you show up....I'll let you touch my H2 and run my plates!

Who knows why you were "really" pulled over.

I will say this, thank god you were not in San Francisco driving with fajitas.

The cops would have tried to beat the crap out of you. Even if they were off duty.

Talk about a rough town.

Steve, you are going to be disapointed in me. Sat at 09:00 they began 6K worth of work on my H2

I bought the Pioneer NAV system for the front and it plays DVD as well. A 6.5 widescreen monitor for the front. Voice activation and the other goodies.

Next they are also installing a complete seperate DVD system for the rear with head rest 7 in monitors and another DVD system with wireless headphones for the rear. Should be way cool and I AM GOING TO POST PICTURES

Also they are installing a TV tuner so I sould be able to get TV stations no matter where we go.

Sorry, but I need to go before June when I go back east. Sorry for being a flake, but I promise to get out in April (not the 5th and 6th). By the way, come and see me at the END OF THE LINE fly fishing store in LA Verne on the 5th and 6th for an estate sale of my friends

See ya

They have now made it illegal to pass cars in the right lane over here, but has never happened to me. I used to get pulled over alot when I had my Porsche 911 Turbo just because the cop wanted to look at it and ask me questions about it.
I guess they think we have time to play there little games.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by HeeHaw:
Nice story, little one sided, but its OK to dream that a cop pulled you over because you drive an H2 SARCASM

It’s OK to be proud of the H2 and I certainly am VERY PROUD of mine, but you need to get a life. INSULTING & DEGRADING

Writing about your experience is cool and I enjoy reading about them, but putting words into a police officer's mouth about something as unintelligent as pulling you over to look at your vehicle is stupid.... INSULTING
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Heehaw....I'm citing you for excessive use of verbal rebuttal, openly insulting a forum member publically, and "roughing". What happened to the friendly Heehaw we used to know?....you've changed man...you've changed. It used to be about the H2 and freedom...what's up with that?

...And I'm not going to even get into your not showing up at any of our offroad events...

Heehaw is almost certainly correct...the officer meant to check things out and was doing his job. I have heard of officers pulling people over just to check out their ride....but it's done more in the style that Hummergirl describes. As far as I'm concerned, it's better the police pull-over and check 100 innocent people then let one child abductor or convict get away with something. The cop was doing his job.

Regardless of subject content, I'd like to see more respectful and nicer communication between forum members here. Let's keep it friendly out there folks!

The part that bothers myself is walked up and TAPPED THE REAR SIDE. You mean he touched it (finger prints on Black) with his hand or flashlight? Just Curious

My only comment on the subject to law enforcement officers is, just because you wear the badge, does not make you just of even fair handed with the way some think they have to treat the citizens they are sworn to serve and protect...and yes I say serve...most here in northeast Louisiana have forgotten or just don't care that they are not above the law, but are subject to the same laws that apply to the citizens they are sworn to serve and protect.
A law enforcement officer is a law enforcement officer 24/7 it is not a job, but a privilege to serve the communities in which they live. Most have forgotten this. Every day I see our local law enforcement breaking the same traffic laws that they seem to think only apply to the citizens of there community. This in turn sets a very bad example for our children. How can parents teach there a child right from wrong when all they see happening around them is that right and wrong only applies to some? My own son who is only 14 has asked me many times about this issue. What am I, as a parent, suppose to tell him? Do I tell him that they are the law and we do as we are told? What does this teach them? Corruption has run rampant in this country, on every level, because we as a nation do not hold our leaders accountable for there actions. And this way of thinking is why our nation is in such trouble today! Where is the justice in breaking laws to enforce them?

OK, my final words on this topic...

MAC - I never stated as fact that he pulled me over to view the H2. None of us know. Some of us have our opinions. I'm suggesting only that it's a possibility based on 20 years of consistent driving habits.

WANNBE - I guess I won't comment since, apparently, you were there and have better recollection of the facts than I do.

I'll acknowledge that I'm a little (or a lot) sarcastic at times which is reflected in my posts. I certainly didn't mean for this to become so personal for those who seem to have taken it that way. I joke around with my police offer relatives and friends in such manner and only receive a lot of jovial back-n-forth, all in good nature. The name calling, personal insults, and misrepresentations really don't have an effect on me but certainly bring the board down a couple notches on the maturity scale.
