AVIC-Z1 install woes
Spent 8 hours installing a Z1 to only run into a problem at the end Tapped the brown wire in the drivers pillar for the reverse wire. Got lucky and the VSS wire was in my radio harness Used a Metra GMOS04 wire harness because it has the Onstar and chimes built into 1 unit and you can control the volume of the chimes, (turned way down). Also had to loop the 2 purple wires in the gm harness. Only problem now is that when the key is in accessory mode, I don't hear any music from the stereo, but Onstar still works. As soon as I open the door and the door chime starts ringing, the music from the stereo comes through. As soon as I shut the door, no more music. With the key turned to on, I don't get anything even with the door opened, but again Onstar still works. I'm going to call Metra in the morning, but was just curios if anyone has any ideas on this. Checked wiring 4 times, and all seems correct. Pretty strange if you ask me.

Re: AVIC-Z1 install woes
Ugh! Sounds like a hassle. You should just trade me your avic-z1 for my fully functional and working n2 w/adapters and harnesses, it will really be less of a headache for you.

Re: AVIC-Z1 install woes
If you previously had XM, there would be three purple wires to jump over; not two. Reason for the splicing of the wires is that the serial data link comes into the radio and then is supplied to Onstar and XM via the radio link. The Pioneer head unit does not pass this link through. There should be two purple in the 24-pin and 1 purple in the 12-pin. If you don't have factory XM, no problem.
Leave the factory XM if installed connected to power.
Did the adapter come with a relay setup that had to be wired for ignition on signal? I would have to confirm by looking at some schematics, but it sounds like the there is an incorrect wire connected and I don't have a schematic for the adapter you are using.
It is also very early...

Did you have the Monsoon system? If so, it sounds like the amp turnon is not connected or connected to the wrong place. Make sure that you have the remote amp lead from the Z1 connected to the amp turnon lead from the harness.

DOHHHHHH!!!
The label on the z1 was labeled system connect, didn't think the amp power was connected to it. Everything works fine now. At least I didn't have to call Metra tech support, hate tech support.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
now I just have to go find one of those silly antenna adapters...
