WTF kind of spider was that? It was probably harmless, but it was too big for my comfort.

It's a common barn spider. It's very lethal................ to other insects.  |

I agree, they are very tasty too. Slow cook over the grill and spice with pepper and Cajun spice. Ummmm good....
Or, roll in spices and flour, deep fry and you have spider poppers.
