Free XM subscription ending - Any good deals on renewing?
My free 3 month XM subscription is ending this month. Some older posts spoke of cheaper renewal deals out there. XM quoted $142 per year to keep their service. Are there better deals to be had? Can the dealer offer better programs? Any info is appreicated!

Agreed. I ripped my XM out last weekend, my 3 months of free agony finally ended ! I put in a Sirius unit that works with the existing head unit, so it is exactly like having factory Sirius. The unit was $99.00 and fairly easy to install once you take out the stock radio to get to the XM plugs.
Now I can finally enjoy my SAT tunes !

Re: Free XM subscription ending - Any good deals on renewing?
I got a $79 a year renew about 2 weeks ago, but had to fight for it. I had no codes and had to get bumped up the ladder and argue, but after about a half hour I got it. I'm not usually one to go through that kind of hassle for a few bucks, but my service cut out the morning my wife and I were driving to Nagshead (a 5 hour drive) so I had time to argue with them on the way there and I thought I'd see where it got me. I never would have gone through that if I actually had something else to do.
XM is the first satelite radio I've had. And I've only had it for just over 3 months now. The only issue I have is the reception. I have a lot of trees overhanging roads in my area, and that seems to f with the reception. What makes Sirius so much better? (wannabe-we were both wondering the same thing at the same time)

i let my subscription go out, i would prefer Sirius, what is this one you bought? I want to give it a go.
Also, i digress.
99x in atlanta had the best morningg show in the whole east coast.
Back when it was Fred Toucher hosting [(i believe he got fired and got a gig in Boston, those bastards) he was the best, with all his sidekicks. 10x better than Howard, howard doesnt really make me laugh. (he's all
sit on the Se% machine like that)
Well i guess Boston may have the best radio)]
anyway this is quite comfusing, but this is just me explaining why i can go without SAT radio.
FRED TOUCHER. WIKI him

Without this getting in to a useless Flame war about XM vs. Sirius, let em give you my perspective having owned both.
Remember, you may prefer XM. It does have things that appeal to a different crowd. To be fair to XM, I did like a couple of things. Baseball is only on XM and if you travel and are a Baseball fan, XM is a must. The have a cool channel called "Cinemagic" that was cool (listening to the score from "300" or "The Black Hole" was cool)
Here is what I did not like. XM tries to smash too much stuff on to one channel. For example, their "FRED" station tries to be a progressive station, but you get music from the last 30 years in no particular style other than "not pop". They also play the most obscure tracks in the world. The direct comparison to this station is "First Wave" on Sirius. This channel is progressive music from the 80's and focuses on the music that was influential in the movement and was actually played on college radio stations.
XM's biggest problem with the stations that I listened to was the absolute crap selections of whatever artist they choose. The artists were good choices, but the songs selected were b-sides and strange concert recordings.
Don't get me wrong, there are some artists that I can not get enough of and love the obscure stuff....but most of the time you just want to listen to the good stuff and move on to the good stuff from the next artist.
Another problem that I had was that the actual stations missed the mark for me. On Sirius, some of my favorites are the "classic vinyl", "Punk", "First Wave", "Classic Rewind", "The Spectrum", and "Margaritaville"
I am not a Howard Stern fan, so I don't listen to that.
