From Land Rover to H2?
I owned a Land Rover Discovery for about 4 years. I loved the thing. Took it off road a lot. Got rid of it about 3 years ago and got a BMW. The lease is almost up on it and I miss going off road and camping out. I have been looking at the H2, maybe an 05. Anyone out there go from a Rover to an H2? I love the style of the H2 but my biggest worry is who makes it. Not very fond of American made cars when it comes to quality and reliability. (Not to say my Rover was all that reliable.)
I guess my questions are:
How is the quality? Reliability? How is it off road? Anything else you can tell me would be great.
Are there any recommended sites to do some research? I am curious about it's 4X set up. Lockers? Front, rear center? Anything I can read would be cool.
Any local clubs to Orange County, CA?
Thank you

Re: From Land Rover to H2?
I went from Range Rover to Dodge Ram and then to Hummer H2. I have to say that the Hummer is the best truck I ever drove. Runs great (on and off road), looks great and so far no problems. Go for it !!!

Re: From Land Rover to H2?
As for the american part, what i say to my friends i wont drive an american car, unless its a Mclaren F1 or a Hummer. Its just not the same. However go with the h3 Alpha!!!!!!!! but then again im an H3'er so of course im gonna say that. As for research on teh vehicle just look around google it a bit, but i can tell you for a fact this site will help you out way more than you think. The vehicle performs great, on road and off road after all it is a Hummer. As for a certain year of buying the H2 there really all the same execpt for now for 2008 they changed the exterior a little and they changed the interior, also the engine now is 6.2 litres instead of 6.0 litres, and its a 6 speed tranny instead of a 4 speed

Re: From Land Rover to H2?
The Rover was much smaller than an H@. Off Roading will be way different for you. The H3 may be more your size in comparison to the DISCO. If you are looking for a full size rig, I have been very happy with the H2.....6 times over.

You had a Rover and you are worried about quality/reliability issues with a Hummer?

Re: From Land Rover to H2?
Maintaining an h2 is like maintaining a GMC 2500 Truck. Very Easy to work on and parts are relatively inexpensive and can be founds at any autoparts store.
What do you want to know about the 4x4 system?
It does have a locker in the rear diff
It uses Traction Control or TC2 "used when paddeling throught mud and sand terrain"
And BTM "Brake Torque Modulation" Basically if you are stuck push your left foot on the brake and give it gas as you gently let up on the brake. The Hummer will send power the the wheels with the most resistance.

Re: From Land Rover to H2?
I have an LR3...which is nothing like a disco II/I... The H2 is great for hauling the family...especially on long road trips.... The LR3 is great for short runs to Seattle, but can't haul near as much as the H2....

Re: From Land Rover to H2?
Had an 04'. No problems. Got a LR3- love it and will buy the 2009-10 H2 with the new diesel!!!
Rover is very smooth on the highway and hummer was like a tugboat. Both have an incredible 4x4 system

Re: From Land Rover to H2?
Thanks a lot for all the info. Although my fav of fav SUV's is the Defender 110, I will probably go for the H2 for cost reasons at this time. And my dad will be proud. 37 years old and I may be getting my first American made car! Coming from a dad who has only owned Chevy's this will be a big deal to him!
Did someone say they are going to offer a H2 Diesel? Maybe I should wait!
Thanks again for all the information. When I get one I will be sure to let you guys know.

Re: From Land Rover to H2?
I owned 2 Disco's. I did the Emu lift and axle upgrades. It was a very capable off road vehicle. I exploded 1 t-case in a 99 model and a trans in a 2000.
I had a bumper sticker that read-"Caution: This vehicle drops the best made British parts."
