Default How many quarts 2006 H2 tranny pan hold?

Will be dropping the pan in a few weeks and want to be sure I have enough fluid. How many quarts should I expect to need just to drop the pan to change the filter?

THANKS in advance....

Im pretty sure the 06's still have the 4L65. If so you'll get around 5 qts. (I'd buy 6 just in case) out and the factory uses dexron 6.

I gotta say- if your droping your pan to just change your filter and fluid... your wasting your time and money.

The filters now are prettymuch only for catastriphic failure. Transmission should be powerflushed to get all the fluid out/clean.

I have about 45K on the clock and use it for towing. The fluid is still red and from what I see on the GM TSB, they do not recommend full flush unless there was a catastrophic failure. I plan on using a 12v oil pump to suck the pan dry, put fresh Dex VI in, run the vehicle for a short time and than drop the pan, change the filter and refill... I know there is alot of debate on this but why would GM suggest changing the filter at 50K if it is used for towing? My own feeling is that it does not make sense not to perform a service gm suggests and do one on place of it that they do not. Am I overlooking something?

If you want it to last as long as possible and especially if you tow with it, then do it right and change the filter. I only tow a 20ft boat with mine and i'll service mine once a year. I dont understand how people think that not changing a filter is good for a transmisson? Its just common sense to be honest.

I second the fitler etc. but, after drain go to royal purple synthetic fluid for even more protection.

I run royal purple synthetic in everything.

I was just at the dealer for a possible Trans leak. They told me about 11 quarts for a complete overhall. I would assume that means dropping the pan and changing the filter. Id deffinetly verify the correct amount before you do it.

That would be for the torque converter as well

Like luv2camp said, thats for the converter and a trans that doesnt have a drop of fluid in it.

I have doubt on gm only recommending flushing of the tranny on catastriphic failure... Flushing it out is never going to hurt you.

If you think the filter needs changed, why not take the extra step and get it flushed out?

Some of the fluid & new filter < all of the fluid & new filter

Cost me $75 couple months back to get the H2 done, but I have friends that work at the dealership...not sure if thats the going rate or what.

just my $0.02..
