Door handle solution to break-in's??

I did not see this "diagram" that is mentioned, but based on what you described, mine was similarliy broken into on the driver's side. The key entry was forcably pried which also cracked the black plastic backing. Upon getting it replaced at the dealer it was advised by Service to have the plastic backing replaced in chrome. The estimate for that was $500 plus for each front door. I did not have this done. However, I can't imagine having the metal backing will prevent it from happening again in so much what the Service guy was recommending was more of a visual deterrent than anything else?
