I don't think they are removed. That's part of the camo attempt. The flares are obviously over the wheels if you look closely.

Are they supposed to cover up the part that hasn't changed? It's covered to not give away the secrets one what the final product is going to look like. KGP got this picture because GM wanted them to. It was time pics of models started showing up.
