Question Brake Controller connection in '06s

Hi all! I have searched and read all the threads regarding brake controllers/wiring/connections in this forum and have left me dizzy . It looks like GM screwed up the wiring in the earlier models, then fixed it in the next models, now messed up again?

I also read the manual and have located the plug under the dash by the steering column. I will be towing a small popup camper (Fleetwood Tucson) weighing approx. 1,800 lbs loaded.

1). Is the "right" brake controller harness now availble for the 2006 model? I guess you will need this instead of splicing the wires under the dash if you are using say the Tekonsha Voyager or the Draw-Tite Activator.
2). Is there a brake controller that would just connect to the existing plug under the dash?
3). Can you guys suggest a controller for the relatively light trailer I am pulling?

Thanks!
