It's not a question of being honest or dishonest as much as it is being so stupid that you would lie about what a foreign head of state told you about one of his country's principal archenemies, and then expect it not to blow up in your stupid face. It's not just a lie, it's a lie that can do nothing but make you look like a neophyte moron.
