I couldn't stand it any longer. I had to try these new Toyo MTs. As most of you know I'm a bit of a tire packrat. I've got a set of brand new stock BFG ATs on stock wheels, a set of 37x12.50x17 Iroks on black stock wheels, a set of siped stock BFG ATs w/o wheels and a set of 37x12.50x17 MTRs on black wheels. The MTRs were getting down to the 50-60% tread range so I figured it was time to try some new tires(in anticipation of the next Moab trip
). I've been hearing great reviews on the Toyos so I called up my local Les Schwab store and ordered a set.
I was surprised to see that the 35" Toyo was as tall as(if not slightly taller)the 37" GY MTR. The Toyo also looks wider because of the tread design and sturdier outer lugs. The Toyos look more aggressive than the MTRs, but ride as quietly as the stock BFG ATs. Directional stability is much improved over the 37" Iroks and a bit better than the MTRs.
I took the following pictures to show the flex of an aired down Toyo MT vs a GY MTR. Both were aired down to 15.5psi.
