I would bet it's your 4WD selector switch...mine went bad ("developed a short") last year and caused the exact problem you describe.
The dealer diagnosed it right away...I guess something comes up on the Tech II indicating the failure. It was a relatively inexpensive fix...maybe $75 installed; I can't remember exactly.
