I'd highly suggest doing the "short loop" of Fordyce, I don't think the width would be an issue and it is a beautiful trail.
The full trail would be interesting because of a few spots but doable. Trees would not be your friend on the Rubicon, you would be true tree huggers
Actually since they re-routed the trail go in wentworth and honestly width is not as much as an issue any more. Wentworth is a great campground, then you go till you don't want to go anymore, maybe go back to camp.

DRTYFN,
I might join you the 17th. I'll check my calendar and see.
It might be worth it to have Chris (don't know last name) join with his H1 and guide. He did an excellent job and lives in the area.

Mav,
You did the whole thing? Did you have to use any bypasses? What did you break/damage? Any suggestions for parts/tools/supplies to bring?
Advice would be greatly appreciated.
Do you happen to remember which mags had the articles?

DRTYFN,
Have you posted the itinerary? I'm gonna try to meet up with you guys but it depends on what your plans are. Sorry if I've missed where you posted this before but some specifics like when, where, how long, etc, will help me make the call. I live about 40 minutes from the head of the ruby but haven't quite bought in to running the whole thing yet. Thanks!

DRTYFN, you'll have a blast. As H2 Maverick said, have some good spotters and your damage will be greatly reduced. You need to expect some wheel scrapes, some rocker bar and skid plate dents from the tall rocks. But finally, no more pinstriping.
Have a safe trip.
Brian.

I think we all have something to learn about navigating protected trails. Unfortunately not all of that wisdom comes instantly or instinctively. Thanks for some of the educating input on this thread.
Our trip to observation point was incredible. The Hummer is a great machine to slowly travel this type of trail (when used wisely).

Jason,
That's funny, I was thinking about emailing you last night regarding that.
Go right ahead and remove the garbage.

This was a good time. I was the only moderate trauma with a dinged up driveline. Not sure when it happened but was able to avoid heavy harmonics until about 65 mph. So, I limped home, dropped the driveline and just took it to Sacramento to be repaired. It'll be running again tomorrow evening.
Brings up a good point: We need driveline protection and probably 3rd member shields. Ideas for you design guys.
My 4 boys and I had a terrific time and I'm looking to go back up there the 25th of October. Any takers?

The first section of the road to miller lake was basically a rocky/dirt road, but from the lake to observation point was anything but that.
