How did you run the wiring for the lights and do you notice much of an increase in wind noise?
Thanks

Rims are an entirely different product. The requirements on a rim that's expected to do it's job with the pressures, speed, balance etc. far outweigh a roof rack required to hold 170lbs. So if as in most cases, it's over designed to hold 300 lbs., it's still nowhere near the manufacturing needs of a set of wheels. Hey, is Harley Davidson making roof racks?

So, The HUMMER rails can hold 250lbs (according to the manual) and the rack with the sunroof opening weighs 88lbs. Therfore, slopes and cornering aside, I would be able to load 162lbs on the rack without damaging the rails on the truck. By the look of the rack, I'm sure it would hold much more weight, but the top of the truck won't. Thanks for the input.

You will never convince me to pay that kind of money on a roof rack, I don't care what kind of following they have,
If GOBI can get enough folks to pay that kind of money to make it worth their while, good for them, but I can tell you at least one person who will not be falling for it.
GOBI may be the GOD of all racks and I would love to have one, but over priced is still over priced.

Thanks for the deal, but this is too rich for my blood. I've seen some really nice looking racks for about half.

Wind noise isn't too bad. to run the wires you pop off the outside A Pillar moldings, air vents on either side of your hood and run the wires down the A Pillars to the engine bay over to your battery. The switches come in through the sidewall boot on the DR SD and run under your dash to wherever you mount the switches. the first H3 rack I wired was my sig. others and it took about five hours. Next one can be done in around 3 1/2. It's more or less just taking your time to neatly tuck wires and anchoring them. This was much easier than running wires for the H2 racks. The rear lights are pre-wored in the rack and stick out the front already, so you run those down the same way. Feel free to PM me with any specific Q's.

Insane, I will not be buying a Gob rack unless the prices come down about half where they belong. In addition, they need a rack that doesn't encompass the sunroof at all. If a person doesn't want lights, what's the use of sticking a rack up there in the high pressure wind stream along the trailing edge of the window. Yup, I'll make my own.
And $299 for a LADDER!?! Man alive, I was born at night, just not LAST night! </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
I'm sure it will look great.

If you dig the rack and got to have it because it's a GOBI, then I'm real happy for the both of you. Hell, I paid extra for the gas cap cover mainly because it says HUMMER on it.
Don't get me wrong, this is a sweet rack, but there simply isn't enough KY in Dallas to encourage me to pay this much. I have to draw the line somewhere.
By the way, I have some beach front property in Arizona and would love to buisness with some of you.

Thanks Tim. The garage door frame is about 80-82", but the problem is the door doesn't seem to open as far as it could. I was hoping to not have to deal with that issue, but sounds like I should see if I can get a couple more inches out of it. I'm sure if I had the opener professionally installed instead of doing it myself, all would be well. :-)

As far as "mass produced" every single rack is hand made/ bent/ welded/ and assembled. That's why they cost a little more. Overpriced? not really. If they were mass produced by some automated machine over seas, than it would be way cheaper and more than likely a cheaper quality as well. I understand you are a design expert king welder and can do this yourself. You should. But if you wanted a custom rack made, how much would it cost you to have something built at this quality level? Quite a bit. It really isn't that expensive when you consider what a nice set of rims cost today.
