well I just had my first oil change after 6,079 miles.I switched over to synthetic oil.I found out that thier was 1 bolt missing from my skid plate.I did not use the oil life system this time around , but I will from here on in.My oil still had over 60% life left which is pretty sweet.I did reset the oil life indicator after.

ok, dumb question here.
How do you tell life left on the oil life system? I know the monthly e-mail from Onstar has it (but I'm not getting those anymore for some reason).
Is there another way to find out?

just got mine the other day. You guys that aren't getting them anymore might want to log into the website and just verify your email address, etc and re-save it. maybe something happened there to cause you not to receive the email. It's technology, it can break. just a suggestion.

Well, I'm glad my question didn't seem so dumb. I was expecting an answer like "look on page 2 of the manual" or something.
I signed up again for Onstar reports, perhaps they start coming again.

Not a dumb question at all. It is a shame that GM does not allow for the reading of the oil life percentage in the DIC, as they do on some other vehicles such as the Vette.

The other odd thing is that Onstar can’t just tell you what the oil life is either if you call them in the car.
I tried this the other month, and was told that they can’t do that check directly other than through the monthly email. This makes no sense to me, it seems that if they can do that for an email why can’t a live Onstar rep do the same thing for you on the fly?

Didn't know that! Guess it could be due to different software or maybe just the liability.
Except for certain emergencies such as air bag deployment, Onstar is not supposed to ping your system. However, when you sign up for the email service, you give them permission t ping your system once a month. They will then attempt to ping your system at the same time each month, and if the vehicle is not on, they will keep pinging until they get the info required.

I've gotten three of them so far. All on, or around, the 18th of the month.
Spam filters might be bouncing them

I dont think im going to use oil life system anyway.I just dont feel good about oil changes at 6000 to 12000 miles.
